Notes about this book

  • cadfael on March 16, 2023

I really Iike the organization of the recipes, the good photos of the food and the variety.

  • JulieCruz on October 20, 2019

I’m not enjoying this book. The way he lists the instructions makes it extremely difficult to follow if you are just making one or two of the components of his meal. I made the piri piri chicken dish with the potatoes and the dessert tarts, and was nowhere near the 30 minute mark.

  • Janemac on June 13, 2011

Great recipes and meal ideas, quick to prepare but usually take more than 30 minutes. Excellent when cooking after work suppers for friends.

Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Pregnant Jools' pasta

    • Jane on October 08, 2019

This is the type of supper I used to make regularly when I had kids at home. It’s definitely comfort food and quick to make. I used baby leeks instead of spring onions and spicy sausages so with the chiles there was some heat. I cooked some asparagus with the pasta - peas or broccoli would be good too.

    • TrishaCP on August 06, 2014

This was a really tasty dish. I used 1 lb of hot Italian sausages, and so I swapped 1/2 a red bell pepper for the chiles and reduced the fennel to 1/2 teaspoon. (All I had in the pantry anyway!) Like Melanie, I let my sauce cook a bit longer since I had some extra time, but this was still an easy one to prepare.

    • Astrid5555 on October 29, 2016

This was really good! I had some leftover sausages which I needed to use up and this dish was what showed up in my EYB search. As per the other reviewers' notes I let the sauce cook much longer, close to 45 minutes. I also did not add the chilli (for the kids) and used whole canned tomatoes, which worked well. Will definitely make again!

    • Melanie on February 20, 2012

This pasta definitely passed the test! Tasted great – we used chorizo sausages and skipped the celery & basil (none at hand) and chillies (cooking for non spicy food eaters). If making just for myself I would add the chillies back in. Note that I had it slightly easier as my sister had already thrown the meat and veggies into the food processor and I just had to cook it later on. I still let the sauce cook for about 40 minutes though, pushing this dish way past the overall 30 minute meal mark. I think the flavour made up for it though so I would leave it to cook for a while next time anyway. I served this with garlic bread and a salad of rocket, parmesan and lemon juice and would probably do the same again next time.

    • michalow on September 03, 2018

I used this recipe as inspiration, but totally changed the proportions to make the sauce more veggie-centric. Used just one sausage (Field Roast Italian) with three carrots, three celery stalks, four spring onions, four garlic cloves, one hot chile, and about 20 oz of tomatoes. No additional salt beyond what came from the tomatoes and sausage. Served the pasta and sauce topped with freshly ground black pepper and chopped parsley -- I didn't think it needed cheese. I simmered only briefly, as recommended in the recipe, and like the fresh-tasting result. Outstanding payoff for effort. Will make again exactly like this. Also: okay to substitute half of a large brown onion for the spring onions if that's what's on hand, but spring onions really are best here.

    • Charlotte_vandenberg on August 31, 2018

Very easy to assemble and very tasty. Will definitely make this again, also after pregnancy! ;-)

    • JJ2018 on April 20, 2018

This is really delicious / super tasty pasta and sauce

    • Natalie97 on September 12, 2022

I loved this pasta dish! Very easy to assemble, flavours were great. Might leave it to simmer a bit longer like other users have (although i think it was great without!). I made this for my parents, which was risky because my dad hates pasta (especially with tomato sauce). But he loved it as well!

    • TLouise on January 04, 2021

Love this recipe. There are not many dishes that will feed my whole family without someone complaining but this is one of them. No fuss, no waste. Thumbs up.

    • YorksPud on January 30, 2023

Really enjoyed this pasta, simple and a cheap meal If cooking for a small crowd! We just had it on its own but will make the accompanying salad recommended in the book next time! It’s very similar to a sausage Ragu I’ve been making for years but will switch to this as the food processor aspect of the recipe is such a time saver and gives a much more even texture than the recipe I’ve previously used!

  • Rogan josh & fluffy rice

    • Jane on November 02, 2012

Like many recipes in this book, this is not as fast as suggested. Prepping and cooking 2 onions, a butternut squash, a cauliflower, some spinach and coriander is never going to be done in 30 minutes. And I didn't do all the other components of the meal like rice, salad, bread, poppadoms. It was good though, I liked the combination of vegetables and I will make it again.

    • eliza on September 13, 2017

A good, pretty mild curry. I made the butternut curry only, and changed the veggies quite a bit as well as well as adding some hot sauce. You need a really large skillet to cook the squash, cauliflower, chick peas and sauce, so I would go up a size next time. I liked the sweetness of the squash with the other ingredients. Rogan josh paste is not available here (in Canada) so I had to use sauce. Next time I would try making my own paste; Jamie Oliver's recipe for the paste is available on his website. I will probably repeat this one. Took about an hour.

    • Elnara on March 25, 2014

Success! Partner (meateater) liked this veggie curry and was surprised how nice it actually was. Took longer as it was first time. Made all but the pickle and didn't have poppadoms, but naan instead. Will make again as it was easy enough. Prepped veg before and had everything ready to go, so was less stressy and gave myself more time. Don't know if it's a 30 min meal, but it taste so nice and it's so easy, I'm not bothered about time.

    • lizcoates on April 15, 2014

I agree about the 30 min - not a chance really. But otherwise this recipe is simple, delicious and full of veggies! I usually do this with the carrot salad and some naan. I also do a double batch and freeze it for quick meals later. You can make you own rogan josh curry paste with the recipe from Ministry of Food if you have that book too!

    • Ro_ on September 29, 2019

I quite liked this recipe, but partner less keen. If I made it again I'd probably use more chickpeas and less cauli/butternut.

  • Piri piri chicken

    • Jane on October 19, 2019

It's really not very easy to cook just one or two recipes from these menus since the instructions are sequenced for making every part of the menu. I was just making the piri piri chicken and dressed potatoes and it was disjointed. Especially when you get consecutive instructions "Turn the chicken over" with no indication as to how long for. I think I probably didn't do long enough as the chicken wasn't cooked after the time in the oven (18 mins) and needed another 10 minutes for a total 28 mins - which rather destroys the 30 minute meal target! It was OK, not worth a repeat though the sauce was flavorful. Not mad keen on microwaved potatoes either. This felt like a meal that would have been better without cutting corners to save time.

    • Astrid5555 on August 12, 2014

Excellent, great sauce to go with the chicken!

    • clo4cb94 on June 03, 2011

      Amazing

    • Melanie on November 25, 2014

Relatively easy to make and the sauce tastes great with the chicken. Served with lemony baked potatoes and rocket salad.

    • alisa on May 23, 2012

      Fantastic flavours

  • Sweet chilli rice

    • Cheri on March 24, 2013

This was one of those recipes that seemed like a good idea, but... We did not like the texture or the flavor. I followed the recipe exactly and usually have good results with his recipes. I will not repeat this, threw out the mushy mess.

  • Goddess salad

    • Cheri on March 25, 2013

Too much lemon. This dressing is quite bland. I did have a ripe avacado, but 1/2 avacado to the entire juice of one lemon is too much/little. Sour cream makes it blander. I would not repeat. I'm sure there are many superior goddess salad dressing recipes.

    • redbirdo on October 11, 2015

I liked this dressing but without having seen the other note on this recipe I put in only a little lemon juice and after tasting decided it was enough.

    • Natalie97 on August 25, 2022

I liked the texture of this dressing. Very silky. Unfortunately, there was just too much of it. I already put a lot on my salad, but I still had lots of leftovers.

  • Broccoli orecchiette

    • Cheri on March 26, 2013

This was dry and dull. I will not repeat. Nothing special here.

    • KarinaFrancis on January 02, 2014

I must admit I've made this from watching the show rather than the book but it's a pretty easy and forgiving recipe. I've even used frozen broccoli and it works just as well. A great pantry/freezer standby when you need something quick and tasty.

    • mskabar on November 14, 2013

This is amazing. We now have it often. It's one of our favourites. Full of flavour and delicious.

    • lou_weez on January 19, 2021

I just made the broccoli orecchiette from the book and that alone took about 30 minutes. I didn't have orecchiette and used up a few open packets of different types of pasta I had in the pantry. A great tasty dinner, devoured by all.

  • Beansprout salad

    • kari500 on September 26, 2015

This doesn't sound like much, but it really is very tasty. I skip the bit with cooking the cashews in the honey and just put the honey in the dressing.

  • Fiery noodle salad

    • sarahcooks on September 05, 2012

I really liked this. I think I will be making this again, but instead of doing the whole meal, I will just grill one chicken breast with my favorite store bought thai peanut sauce and add it to this noodle dish. Maybe throw some peapods or other vegetable in to make a one dish meal. The cashews are phenomenal, don't skimp on them.

    • shewolffe on April 04, 2017

I'll be honest, I don't ever expect to do these full meals in the 30 minutes, and that's fine with me. I had lots of time to make this, so adapted it slightly. The satay sauce was delicious - I cut the chicken into chunks and coated it all in the sauce and left it to marinade for an hour or so, before cooking it in the oven. The noodles were really tasty. I hadn't used that technique before, of zizzing flavours up in the mini processor and then mixing it all in with the cooked noodles. I'll be using it again - much easier than chopping and stir frying. I had some left over cooked broccoli which I added to the noodles to add greenery, instead of accompanying with lettuce. It worked well, and I'm now a fan of cooking more broccoli than you need so you can save some!

    • Elnara on March 25, 2014

Very nice, although I made it less fiery because of the little ones, who polished it off. Dish is very yummy! Will make again.

    • Vegansarah on September 18, 2021

really enjoyed these noodles. didn't bother with the kebabs and just marinated and baked in the oven

    • Natalie97 on August 25, 2022

Super fast and easy noodles without skimping on flavours! Also, those cashewnuts were amazing. It was the highlight of my meal. Will be making those again!

  • Fruit & mint sugar

    • sarahcooks on September 05, 2012

I didn't have any mint so I used pineapple sage from my garden. Maybe it was less potent, but I couldn't really taste it in the sugar. I think to simplify in the future I would just serve the pineapple and blueberries with the coconut yogurt. I used So Delicious yogurt made from cultured coconut milk, not sure if he meant that or coconut flavored yogurt, but I really liked it and it went brilliantly with the fruit. Made the fruit more "dessert-like" without making it unhealthy.

    • Elnara on March 25, 2014

Made the minty sugar and it smelled divine. So simple and yet so effective. The vibrant green colour also looks very nice on fruit and I later used left over sugar on a Lemon yogurt cake with cream. But that's a different story. The fruit with the coconut yoghurt was super nice and the little ones loved it too.

    • Natalie97 on August 25, 2022

I misread the mint sugar ingredients and ended up using a course light brown sugar instead of a fine one. Mine also didn't look as vibrant. The combination with the mint sugar, fruit and yoghurt (I used regular yoghurt) worked really well. Really liked this simple, but still healthy dessert.

  • Wonky summer pasta

    • sarahcooks on May 19, 2013

Very good and very fast. We made the whole 30 minute meal in 35 minutes (I had everything in place before I started timing).

    • coontey on November 25, 2011

This is fab!: - Just put on the pasta and THEN start the sauce. One of the few genuine 10m recepies from start to finish. Don't overdo the lemon juice tho'.....

  • Pear drop tartlets

    • sarahcooks on May 19, 2013

I don't know if it is fair to rate this when I used peach jam and homemade canned peaches for this recipe rather than raspberry jam and pears, but it was so delicious! I used a 9 inch crust because I haven't been able to find pre-made tart shells, and I think it could have used more meringue to cover properly. It came together so fast, and was fabulous with vanilla ice cream melting over it.

  • Mustard chicken

    • sarahcooks on May 29, 2012

I didn't think I liked mustard, but this was delicious, and the mustard is so mild in the cream. Cooked this whole meal in 35 minutes.

    • TrishaCP on February 15, 2014

Really flavorful and easy to execute. The mustard does not overpower- it just adds a savory and tangy note.

    • salskitchen on February 04, 2015

      page 98

  • Quick Dauphinoise

    • sarahcooks on May 29, 2012

This was as quick as he says, and delicious. I didn't include the anchovy and it was still very good.

    • TrishaCP on February 15, 2014

Several really good tips speed this recipe along. Jamie is a big fan of using the food processor slicing blade to speed the slicing process and now I am too, really great results and much faster than using the mandoline. The one problem I had is with starting the recipe on the stovetop- I could only fit my pan on one burner and as a result I didn't achieve even cooking. This was less of a problem for the potatoes than the onions, some of which retained an unpleasant raw consistency. I completely forgot the anchovies, and the flavor was still good, but I think it would have been improved with the additional umami.

    • Ro_ on September 29, 2019

Good idea for making a quick dauphinois. It would benefit from a longer cooking time nonetheless.

  • Black Forest affogato

    • sarahcooks on May 29, 2012

So good for so little effort. I was serving this to small children so I used strong hot chocolate instead of coffee and it was delicious.

  • Chicken skewers

    • sarahcooks on September 05, 2012

I grilled these instead of broiled them. The satay sauce was really good, but I felt the meat would have benefited from a longer soak in the sauce. Not the point of 30 minute meals I know, but still. I made the whole meal and it took me an hour with my husband doing the grilling. I have made his meals in closer to the 30 minute mark, but doing this one in that amount of time is laughable. Not to say it's not a great meal, but keep in mind it's not the quickest in the book.

    • shewolffe on April 04, 2017

I'll be honest, I don't ever expect to do these full meals in the 30 minutes, and that's fine with me. I had lots of time to make this, so adapted it slightly. I'll be using it again - much easier than chopping and stir frying.

    • Elnara on March 25, 2014

Good recipe, but not great. The technique of getting the chicken on the skewers I ignored and just placed them on normally. This takes longer, but I had the time. Did use the oven grill and this worked fine, but it's not great having the oven door open and in the way whilst cooking. Must be a better way and I think next time I use my hob grill. Sauce went really well with it!

    • Natalie97 on August 25, 2022

I was really surprised at how easy this was. Making the skewers, I used the technique described in the book. I was very sceptic at first, but it definitely worked. Had to trim them a bit in places, but it was still so much easier and faster than cutting the chicken first and then putting it all on a skewer.

  • Trapani-style rigatoni

    • TrishaCP on July 29, 2015

Another great Jamie Oliver pasta recipe-this was quick, easy, and satisfying. The sauce is quite rich from the almonds and cheese and really benefits from the extra cherry tomatoes served as a garnish on top. I only had time to make one of the accompanying salads and chose the deliciously austere arugula and lemon salad, which was a great accompaniment. Note: the ciabatta and thyme are only needed if you are serving the accompanying bread course, which I did not.

    • VineTomato on July 01, 2017

A favourite, in regular rotation in our household. This has replaced our simpler basil pesto pasta, it is so good! We don't bother with the side salads - in our view not necessary.

  • Rocket & Parmesan salad

    • TrishaCP on July 29, 2015

Pleasingly peppery and acidic, this would pair well with any rich pasta dish (like the accompanying Trapani-style rigatoni).

  • Tasty crusted cod

    • TrishaCP on February 10, 2019

I adapted this for the oven (350 for 20 minutes), but otherwise mostly followed the recipe. (I used hot pepper flakes instead of the fresh chile, and skipped the basil.) I concur that this is very tasty- although next time I would omit the Parmesan from the topping too- it isn’t needed with the rest of the umami-laden ingredients. Served with polenta and spinach.

    • shewolffe on March 29, 2017

Slightly adapted this recipe to include ingredients I had in the cupboard (so no basil or fresh chilli, but a dash of peperoncino spice mix instead). And I made it all in the oven instead of using the grill. I was in no real hurry, so this worked for me. And I served it with cauliflower cheese made with gorgonzola and parmesan. It was utterly delicious - really good strong flavours. I'll definitely make it again.

    • KarinaFrancis on May 15, 2022

I’ve been wanting to make this for years and it’s as good as I’d hoped. The tomato topping is really intense, but I liked that. I used very soft white bread, it would be even better with some stale sourdough. The tartare is fantastic, tangy and bright - a perfect match with the fish. Next time I’ll make the rest of the sides

    • peaceoutdesign on January 04, 2022

Perfect for cod or tilapia which I usually find very bland. This was pretty easy and a good weekday meal. I didn't do any of the sides, which I am sure would have been great additions.

    • lou_weez on February 03, 2021

Really enjoyed this dish. Used ling instead of cod and cooked it in the oven.

    • sharonbakar on April 30, 2022

The fish was okay. The topping consists of a very pungeant pesto which was just too intensly flavoured for me. The mushy peas and salad were really nice. Will make this again but will adjust the topping.

    • SusanAx on January 13, 2023

I really liked this dish, but after less than 10 minutes under the broiler in the center of the oven my breadcrumbs were completely blackened. Thankfully I had extra, and the fish (a thick piece of Atlantic cod) wasn't done yet, so I scraped off the burned bits, topped the fish with more crumbs and a drizzle of olive oil, turned off the broiler and put the fish back in a 375 oven for 5-8 minutes until the fish was just cooked through and the crumbs were nicely browned. Who knows, maybe broilers work differently in the UK?

  • Cucumber salad

    • Astrid5555 on October 14, 2014

Nice Asian twist on cucumber salad. Will repeat!

  • Dressed potatoes

    • Astrid5555 on August 12, 2014

Love the feta/cilantro combination, great topping!

    • Cheesepiggy on June 08, 2011

      Leave out the corriander

  • Beetroot salad

    • eliza on April 03, 2014

Good and easy to make. Used cilantro instead of parsley. Very healthy too.

  • Crispy chicken

    • eliza on June 22, 2016

This recipe was a bit underwhelming because the chicken was overdone. The method involves placing a heated weighted pot on top of the chicken to cook it on both sides. I also have the DVD of this episode and was excited to try it. I tried it twice, reducing the cook times the second time, and the results were similar; the chicken turned out hard and a bit leathery! The flavours were good so I will make again, but will use my regular braising technique (brown in pan, add some liquid, lid on, cook on low 25 minutes, finish with aromatics). I liked the sauce and the sesame seeds. I didn't make the entire meal but it probably could be completed in about 45 minutes or so.

  • Squashed potatoes

    • eliza on September 25, 2019

I made these as part of a different meal. Very easy and I like the method of boiling and searing the potatoes in the same pan. Really good due to the salt, rosemary, and olive oil used. Would boil a little less next time as mine were a touch overdone.

  • Asian-style salmon

    • mbremner on December 17, 2013

Can substitute shredded or torn lettuce for bean sprouts in salad. Add snow peas to broth at last minute to avoid overcooking. Takes well over an hour to make!

    • Ro_ on September 29, 2019

Very nice salmon recipe, which I'd make again. I used regular peas as couldn't get snow peas. Would recommend using a really good stock for this (I skimped and used a cube, but next time would use something better quality).

  • Sea bass & crispy pancetta

    • redjanet on September 09, 2011

This tasted really great, although I'm not very adept at pan-frying fish fillets and it all fell apart a bit in the pan. Worth it for the flavour, though. I just served this with new potatoes and a green salad and it all went very well with a crisp Sauvignon Blanc.

  • Chicken pie

    • redjanet on August 25, 2011

I have made this a couple of times now and it has come out well each time. A bit messy, but worth it.

amazing recipe - I have cooked this dish at least 5 times (that is saying something - as I usually don't repeat a recipe!) - really easy and quick - perfect for a mid week supper!

    • FJT on February 29, 2020

Easy and very tasty. I used tarragon instead of thyme because I bought some for another recipe and it needed using up.

    • sharifah on December 12, 2011

Nice and easy - would make this again

    • coontey on November 25, 2011

One of the many bomb-proof recepies in this book. V fast and the kids love it!

    • Elnara on February 13, 2014

I made this several times over the last few years. It's a good, go to recipe. Very fast, everyone that eats it loves it and works great for both mid week dinner as well as a supper for guests. Giving it 5 stars as each time I made it, it came out great and no one has refused seconds yet! :D

    • kellilee on February 14, 2022

Very flavorful, came together just as expected with help from Jamie (Meals in Minutes Season 13, Episode 10). Served with French-style peas and smashed carrots. Substituted scallions for spring onions; sour cream for creme fraiche, and spicy brown mustard for English mustard. Do not own a food processor so sliced my own vegetables. Puff pastry puffed and browned nicely and we packed up some leftovers for lunches.

    • bradis on October 25, 2022

This was a delight to eat. So tasty. Definitely will be making this again

  • Roasted baby new potatoes

    • saladdays on September 09, 2012

A very easy way of cooking roast potatoes if you are already using the oven for the main course. Pre-cooking the potatoes in the microwave makes for 20 minutes cooking time. Be generous with the lemon juice and herbs to make them really tasty.

  • Smoky haddock corn chowder

    • FJT on November 10, 2021

Delicious! I did make 2 changes: no prawns because of allergies (subbed in more smoked haddock) and cauliflower instead of potato as I had half a cauliflower to use up. No one noticed there wasn't any potato in it, but it would obviously be better still with potato. This would be even faster / easier to make using frozen or tinned sweetcorn. I am sure this will be made several times over the winter.

  • Mackerel pâté

    • FJT on November 10, 2020

      A good mackerel paté.

  • Amazing satay sauce

    • Melanie on March 09, 2014

This was a delicious satay sauce - served with grilled chicken.

    • Elnara on March 25, 2014

This was a good, all round, satay sauce. Went really well with the rest of the meal. Will make again.

  • Tuscan tomato salad

    • Melanie on March 02, 2014

Ate this at Jess & Matt's - delicious, would love to make. Need to ensure bread gets nice and toasty. Don't include the anchovies / capers.

    • Natalie97 on June 12, 2022

This is a fantastic tomato salad! It's so full of flavour. I was a bit nervous about adding the anchovies. But as long as you dice them up very finely, it doesn't taste fishy at all. It gives a nice umami flavour. I also loved these super quick and easy croutons.

  • Spinach & feta filo pie

    • Melanie on March 02, 2014

Ate at Jess & Matt's - another winner! Want to try making this one for myself.

    • alisa on May 23, 2012

Great way to get lot's of spinach in one meal - I used 4 bags!

    • VineTomato on May 14, 2017

Hands down our favourite recipe of all time and a Saturday night dinner over and over again. The salads work brilliantly with the pie. It doesn't come together in 30 minutes though! We add lots of extra caynne in the filo layers - yum!

    • Ro_ on May 04, 2020

I made this as I needed something quick to do with the filo pastry, spinach and feta I had to hand - was lacking some of the ingredients for more complicated equivalent recipes, so this one was perfect. It was a very satisfactory result, I wouldn't say it's as good a pie as some of the more complex versions as was lacking a certain something, but very acceptable for something quick and easy.

    • Natalie97 on September 29, 2022

I drained the spinach after cooking to avoid a soggy bottom. I really liked this recipe. It was very easy to assemble. Love how crispy the filo pastry gets! The toasted pine nuts were a great addition.

    • cook_fresco on December 03, 2022

Delicious and even better cold the next day, eaten in slices with ketchup. Wonderful flavour and texture combination.

    • kellilee on February 28, 2022

What a presentation! I had not worked with filo pastry before but it was just as forgiving as Jamie stated. I tried hard not to overthink it as I put the pie together and that worked. I did add extra grated cheddar cheese to the top of the filling prior to closing it all up in pastry. The technique of cooking some on the stovetop before popping the whole thing in the oven produced a nice browned crust - 20 minutes in the oven worked for me. Flavors were delicious - toasted pine nuts really added something. Made the accompanying salads recommended by Jamie, as well. Nice dinner - would serve to guests.

  • Sweet carrot smash

    • sharifah on December 12, 2011

A bit watery, make sure carrots are drained properly and left to dry for a minute - had to add a bit of butter to add flavour

    • Elnara on March 25, 2014

Okay. A good enough side dish, but nothing wow!

    • kellilee on February 14, 2022

Cooked along with Jamie (Meals in Minutes Season 13, Episode 10). Also made the chicken pie and the French-style peas. Carrots stood on their own flavor wise, nice and sweet. My only criticism was textured. I mashed but really should have MASHED - did not carry for the chunky texture I ended up with. Only used a pound of carrots which was what I had but that served two and then we had a little extra to pack into lunches.

  • Seriously good fish tagine

    • sharifah on September 27, 2012

As per the name, this was seriously good! Because I had to clean the mussels, (Jamie's instructions said get your fishmonger to do it), I did the dish in 40 minutes, with the couscous, yogurt & a different simpler salad. One of his instructions I thought was daft; he said roughly chop 2 tomatoes, and finely chop the other 2 tomatoes - why? So I did a rough chop for all tomatoes. And I used cod instead of monkfish - cheaper, still lovely.

  • Super-fast beef hash

    • sharifah on May 09, 2012

Followed this recipe to the letter, except that I didn't have any celery so I doubled up on the carrots. The flavour was nice, and the addition of Worcestershire sauce made it tasty but I found it quite a dry dish. If I were to make it again, I would add a splash of beef stock and covered the pan to keep moisture in.

    • Natalie97 on August 25, 2022

Flavours were there, but like sharifah said, it's quite a dry dish. I think adding a bit of stock would really compliment this dish.

    • kellilee on February 07, 2022

Cooked Super-fast beef hash along with Jacket potatoes and Lovely butter beans & bacon. Would have also made the Goddess salad but the avocado was not quite ripe so we will save that salad for later this week. Cooked along with Jamie while watching Season 15, Episode 5 of Jamie's Meals in Minutes. This was a wonderful meal - the highlight of the dish for us was the butter beans but the combination worked really well together. I would definitely recommend making (at the very least) the hash and butter beans together - as they really compliment each other.

  • Limoncello kinda trifle

  • Sweet potato mash

    • anneskitchen on July 20, 2012

Whilst I liked the recipe overall, it took a lot longer than I thought to mash it up on the board and as a result it cooled down very quickly.

  • Glazed chorizo

    • KarinaFrancis on September 25, 2016

This recipe wins when it comes low effort huge rewards. I was a sceptical about the red wine vinegar, but it totally works. Will make this again and again

  • Kimchee slaw

    • KarinaFrancis on August 06, 2014

Quick and easy side dish for a weeknight or a BBQ. I cheated a little by using a pack of coleslaw mix, but I imagine Jamie would be ok with that in keeping with the "30 minute mindset"

  • Lovely butter beans & bacon

    • redbirdo on October 11, 2015

These are very easy and delicious - in a larger quantity would be great as a meal in themselves with baked potatoes.

    • Natalie97 on August 25, 2022

LOVED these. Might be the best part of this meal.

    • kellilee on February 07, 2022

  • Carrot salad

    • Elnara on March 25, 2014

Made this to go with the Rogan Josh curry. Very nice combo!

  • Berries, shortbread & Chantilly cream

    • Elnara on March 25, 2014

This is a very quick, very yummy desert. Basically it's fresh fruit, vanilla cream and berries. The splash of elderberry cordial gives it a fresh note. I liked it a lot and felt I was very much indulging myself without major effort. Our guests enjoyed it too the first time I made it. And the kids liked it the last time I made this. LOL All ages pleased. :D

  • French-style peas

    • Elnara on March 25, 2014

I was never so surprised by a dish as this. I would never ever have though cooked salad would be nice. But you'd be surprised. It is super yummy! My new fav. way to eat peas.

    • kellilee on February 14, 2022

I was also surprised by the flavors and textures - good. Substituted romaine lettuce for little gem lettuce. Was familiar with wilted spinach but had never wilted any other green. Got help from Jamie (Meals in Minutes Season 13, Episode 10). Served with chicken pie and smashed carrots.

  • Cabbage salad

    • lizcoates on April 15, 2014

I call this one Italian cole slaw. Don't skimp on the lemon and the herbs, they make the whole thing.

  • Rib-eye stir-fry

    • Charlotte_vandenberg on October 18, 2018

This was not a stir fry, more like Vietnamese pho. Prepared the ribeye sous vide (55 degrees Celsius, approximately 2 hours). Did not serve tauge and beef separately, but put everything together in the kitchen. Very delicious, will definitely make again!

  • Dressed greens

    • Hannaha100 on April 11, 2020

Barely a recipe but wanted something a bit different with broccoli - I liked but no one else did! Would be great with Asian dishes.

  • Crispy potatoes

    • averythingcooks on September 28, 2022

I think I either over boiled my potatoes at the start and/or smashed them down more than was intended so rather than crispy individual smashed potatoes, we got a pan of "soft, sorta roughly mashed potatoes" with fresh herbs, olive oil and lemon giving it tons of delicious flavour :)

  • Crispy new potatoes

    • averythingcooks on March 10, 2021

A great little prep for some crispy little potatoes. The method is very straight forward (& easy to follow even though this is one of those "make the whole menu at once" books - which are NOT always easy to follow for one recipe) and the result is a pan of crispy (but tender!) potatoes flavoured with garlic, lemon and rosemary. I simply counted out how many potatoes I wanted for the 2 of us (and according to T - it was not enough :) and eyeballed the flavourings. I can see making these lots - no need to look at the book after the 1st time.

  • Summer veg lasagne

    • cookinggeekmom on July 22, 2023

This recipe had a few issues, which is somewhat typical for the 15-minute and 30-minute meal cookbooks, especially the first time I cooked it. Also, I had to make some substitutions, because I could not get frozen broad (lima) beans and have an asparagus hater in the family so I reduced the amount of asparagus and ended up using probably way too many frozen peas to compensate. The finished product honestly was just strange. Not bad, and edible enough, but not more than the sum of its parts. I had to abandon the side salad because the croutons burned after only a few minutes under the grill - I guess the one in their test kitchen runs a lot cooler than mine. Instead, I served the tomatoes on the side with some fresh chopped basil and a dressing that I whipped up during the couple of minutes the lasagna was in the oven. Still not sure if I will end up keeping this book, because most of my experiences with these menus have been stressful and not turned out super well...

    • Natalie97 on June 12, 2022

I only had dried lasagna sheets, so I used those. It worked just as well, but it will need around 30 minutes in the oven. Don't skip the tomato salad! It really adds a nice freshness to the dish.

  • Crunchy veg & guacamole

    • Ro_ on September 29, 2019

A particularly good guac recipe, I thought. Good texture and flavours.

  • Tomato soup & chunky croutons

    • Ro_ on September 29, 2019

I've tried a million recipes for tomato soup and this is a particularly good one. However I found the portion size a little small: would probably double it up next time to ensure leftovers too.

  • Bloody Mary mussels

    • Ro_ on September 29, 2019

This was such an unusual but delicious mussel dish, it really did taste like a Bloody Mary and was easy to make. I served with potato wedges to dip in and mop up that lovely sauce.

  • Duck salad

    • Ro_ on September 29, 2019

Nice enough, but needed more of the dressing I think and it wasn't quite as flavourful as I was hoping.

  • Fish tray-bake

    • emma_clare on October 01, 2019

This is really delicious. I've made it a few times now. It's amazingly fast and simple to prepare, perfect for weeknight dinners. The only catch is that it uses a lot of expensive ingredients.

  • Jacket potatoes

    • Natalie97 on August 25, 2022

I love jacket potatoes and make them quite often. I am not very confident that I can make these meals in 30 minutes, so instead of cooking them in the microwave, I baked them in the oven. This obviously takes longer, but as expected, the rest of my meal wasn't cooked in 30 minutes either ??

    • kellilee on February 07, 2022

  • Crispy salmon

    • Natalie97 on August 25, 2022

I used much less salmon (and a cheap kind) so I didnt put it under the grill as long. However, it was still a little bit too long because it was a bit on the dry side. I'd probably just pan fry it next time. I loved the grilled veg though! This was the first time I've used the grill function on my oven and was quite impressed!

  • Jazzed-up rice

    • Natalie97 on August 25, 2022

      Nice flavourfull twist

  • Baby courgette salad

    • Natalie97 on August 25, 2022

I used regular courgette from my garden, it worked just as well but looks less pretty.

  • Gorgeous guacamole

    • Natalie97 on August 25, 2022

Really enjoyed this guacamole. Next time I'd probably use a bit less coriander, as I am not the biggest fan. But still really liked the flavour and freshness.

  • Berry spritzer

    • Natalie97 on August 25, 2022

This was lacking flavour for me. I was quite excited to try this drink, but I didnt get much of the fruit, just sparkling water.

  • Cucumber salad

    • Natalie97 on September 29, 2022

Really nice and easy. I didn't have olives, so I used capers instead to get that saltiness. Worked perfectly.

    • kellilee on February 28, 2022

Made as an accompaniment to Jamie's Spinach & feta filo pie as he does in Season 1, Episode 4 of Jamie's 30 Minute Meals. Very nice and simple salad. Recipe calls for black olives but Jamie used kalamata olives and I would make that substitution for the future to add a little saltiness. I also skipped the chilies to avoid the extra heat.

  • Tomato salad

    • Natalie97 on September 29, 2022

This side salad is so simple, but so flavourfull. I had quite a bit of that dressing left over, but I could put that dressing on EVERYTHING. I'll be making this again!

    • kellilee on February 28, 2022

Made as an accompaniment to Jamie's Spinach & feta filo pie as he does in Season 1, Episode 4 of Jamie's 30 Minute Meals. Very nice and simple salad. Substituted champagne vinegar for white wine vinegar.

  • Crunchy chicory & watercress salad

    • Natalie97 on September 12, 2022

Salad was tasty with the pasta dish. This was my first time using watercress and red leaf chicory. I liked the taste of both, but you could definitely use any other kind of salad leaf.

  • Little frangipane tarts

    • Natalie97 on September 12, 2022

Super tasty! Don't skip this recipe. I love how easy and flavourfull this is. I had to make my own pastry cups, so this took me longer than the recipe states, but that's okay. I didn't have any crème fraîche to serve with it. It was delicious without, but I think the freshness would really add something to these pastries.

  • Cauliflower macaroni

    • Natalie97 on September 12, 2022

I think this is a great recipe for cauliflower macaroni. I make this quite often, but I had never added crème fraîche before. The crème fraîche was a great addition! Makes everything smoother, creamier and importantly cheesier. I didn't follow the instructions exactly, as i thought just cutting the cauliflower in quarters wouldn't cut it. And I cooked the macaroni in a separate pan. It just felt plain wrong to cook the cauliflower and macaroni together.

  • Chicory salad with insane dressing

    • Natalie97 on September 12, 2022

      Dressing was very tasty.

  • Lovely stewed fruit

    • Natalie97 on September 12, 2022

  • Squashed cherries & vanilla mascarpone cream

    • Natalie97 on September 29, 2022

I've made this, but replaced the cherries with peaches. It was really good. Loved the vanilla in the cream.

  • Cheat's pizza

    • Natalie97 on June 12, 2022

This is a super quick pizza recipe, but if you have a little bit more time on your hands, please make a yeast dough. This dough does definetely works, but gets a bit dry. The sauce was great!

  • Quick mango frozen yoghurt in baby cornets

    • Natalie97 on September 12, 2022

I liked this idea. But my poor blender just couldn't handle the frozen mango. It wasn't as smooth as I wanted it to be and next time I would add a bit more honey. I didn't have ice cream cones, so just served them without.

  • Quick Portuguese tarts

  • Thai red prawn curry

    • sharonbakar on April 30, 2022

I cooked the curry on the stovetop rather than in the oven. Did not use the peppers or tomato paste and don't feel the dish suffered. The cucumber salad is really nice. All you need with a papaya is lime juice to make the flavour sing - it's a marriage made in heaven; the yoghurt is a distraction.

  • Stuffed Cypriot chicken

Love this chicken, I find it a bit faffy but it’s really worth it. The combination of flavours is delicious

  • Pan-fried asparagus & vine tomatoes

    • YorksPud on January 30, 2023

Love asparagus and love cherry tomatoes so felt like I couldn’t go wrong with this one! Omitted the olives as I’m not a fan of black olives but I didn’t feel it was lacking by not having them! Made to accompany the, suggested, stuffed Cypriot chicken. Delicious
