Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Dal with ground cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and cumin

    • lorraine_ovhpjb on May 21, 2026

Very tasty So easy to make I put the minimum amount of water and served it with rice and papadums

  • Tomato, rice and coriander soup

    • Nancith on March 09, 2016

If you are looking for a soup with substance, this is NOT the one to make. Very broth-y with a rather measly amount of veggies & rice (only 2 TB rice!--had a feeling that I should have added more.) Flavor was Ok although I found the lemon flavor overwhelming, & my husband found the Indian spices too much. Didn't have cilantro or serrano chiles for garnish; perhaps those would have tempered the other flavors. Still...probably won't make again.

  • My favorite chili

    • jdjd99 on January 25, 2020

Was just OK. Not enough chili pepper flavor, even after adding some adobo towards the end of cooking. Was also too watery, though this could be because I soaked my beans but did not reduce the added water.

  • Vegetable amarillo

    • jdjd99 on February 25, 2020

This was sort of one-note from the chiles. Couldn't taste the difference between the vegetables because they were overwhelmed by the mole. Also needed salt, but that only helped a little.

  • Slow-cooked grits with chile and cheese

  • Stacked cauliflower enchilada with green chile sauce

    • jdjd99 on December 15, 2019

Next time I’d sauté the onions first and slice them instead of wedges. Otherwise it was tasty and filling.

  • Potatoes and peas in red curry sauce

    • notknapping on October 22, 2015

This is delicious. Made it as written except there wasn't any coconut cream to be had. Quite good with coconut milk, will make this again.

    • Nancith on September 21, 2016

Very tasty--watch your slow cooker-mine runs hot & by the end the sauce was separating--could have gotten by with less time than suggested. Used the lesser amount of red curry paste which was fine for me, but judged to be too mild by the rest of the family.

  • Barley, mushroom, and onion soup

    • Nancith on February 27, 2015

A surprising depth of flavor from very few ingredients, and water as the liquid. Reaonably easy to prep & throw in the crockpot. Alas, the parsley & Parmesan were not in the pantry, but next time I'll use them to add some other flavor notes.

  • Tuscan white beans with sage and garlic

    • notknapping on October 22, 2015

Cooked on high for 3 hours and just missed pulling them out at the right time.

    • lorraine_ovhpjb on May 08, 2026

      On page 69

    • lorraine_ovhpjb on May 09, 2026

      Very easy and delicious

  • Baby limas with spinach

    • Nancith on March 07, 2016

Simple to make, just a few ingredients, but very satisfying & filling. It's not a complex-tasting dish, but quite delicious. Next time I might try more lemon juice to brighten it up a bit. My addition of some feta on each serving prompted hubby to give this a 5 rating.
