Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Anchoyade

    • LeilaD on April 07, 2020

Do not use a food processor - use the mortar and pestle or a blender. The food processor did not incorporate the oil or the lemon juice. 10 minutes is also too long of a baking time. Otherwise, this is good.

  • Swiss broccoli soup

    • Mtbike5280 on September 04, 2025

It needed additional flavor for me, and I feel like a higher grade of Swiss cheese could have helped, as mine became a little grainy with I added the cheese. It was a great way to use up broccoli stems that I had from another recipe

  • Split pea soup

    • Mtbike5280 on August 28, 2025

This is a soup that I grew up eating and it is comfort in a bowl to me. The peas fully break down and it is full of flavor. When I make it, I find that you have to add more stock as you cook it.

  • Caesar salad

    • LeilaD on June 17, 2017

Try adding cooked chicken- it's really good

  • Mandarin salad

    • tamara_cjermb on April 04, 2026

Our favorite salad. Great for company - pretty at the holidays, too.

  • Chicken Durango

    • curtisca on June 05, 2010

I made this for a family of hungry Czechs and it went over very well! They all asked me how I made it and commented on how good it was. I will keep this recipe handy to use again; it was VERY easy to make.

  • Marinated grilled flank steak

  • Rocky Mountain brisket with barbecue sauce

    • candacey on August 11, 2017

We've used this recipe in our family for years. Always a hit and everyone loves it, especially the barbecue sauce. For the barbecue sauce, I usually cut down the amount of butter I use, but is super delicious if you use the original recipe

  • Beef Bourguignon

    • tamara_cjermb on May 10, 2026

This is truly delicious and a regular item at holidays and special occasions. My family prefers it to the Julia Child recipe.

  • Canneloni crepes

    • Alowishs on April 02, 2016

(on page 162) Reference this recipe when making an Italian dish. Great flavor mix.

  • Chile rellena casserole

    • carriger on August 03, 2020

Use 24 poblano or hatch chiles instead of canned!

  • Green chile (Chili verde) [La Bola]

    • claire_m41ubg on February 10, 2026

      My favorite green chile recipe!

    • claire_m41ubg on February 10, 2026

Substitute roasted hatch chiles if available
