Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Fried Thai pork and shrimp balls

    • wester on April 11, 2013

The shrimp was difficult to chop to a paste, and the meatball mixture was quite sticky. It was worth it though: very tasty, even the kids loved it (I have to admit I decreased the chile a bit), and quite different from normal meatballs.

  • Greek meatballs with tzatziki

    • wester on February 19, 2013

Very nice, but not as good as the kofta in some of my other cookbooks. I used cabbage instead of cucumber in the tzatziki, as I prefer to use seasonal vegetables and this works too. ETA: The method of making tzatziki here is actually very good, draining both the yogurt and the cucumberworks really well.

  • Chafing dish meatballs

    • wester on October 20, 2018

      A good simple meatball recipe.

  • Chinese shrimp ball soup

    • hirsheys on July 08, 2017

This was good, but I'm not sure it was worth the expense.

  • Beef meatball Bourguignon

    • wester on February 27, 2013

Very tasty. Not sure it warrants the title "bourguignon" though, with only one cup of wine to a pound and a half of meat.

  • German meatballs in caper sauce

    • wester on August 19, 2013

Very tasty, but too much sauce. Use less broth next time.

  • Koftas with dill

    • wester on November 11, 2013

Not bad, but I've got better recipes for kofte.

  • Lion's head meatballs with napa cabbage

    • wester on March 03, 2013

I liked these a lot. The flavor is subtly Chinese, and they are easy to make, and quite cheap too.

  • Beef meatballs with horseradish sauce

    • wester on February 19, 2013

A robust recipe with enough heat to make your nose run, softened by sour cream.

  • Lamb meatballs in green curry sauce

    • hirsheys on July 08, 2017

This dish is delicious and unique. I used turkey rather than lamb (don't like lamb.)

    • wester on July 19, 2019

I had some sausage meat that needed using, so I just made the sauce. Good, and I can see the dish being even better when using lamb. Make plenty of rice with this, there is a lot of sauce and it is pretty spicy. When tasting the sauce, I thought it needed much more garam masala, so I quadrupled it and that worked well.

  • Lamb meatballs in spinach-coriander sauce

    • wester on February 15, 2014

Very simple, really tasty. Used frozen spinach, with good results.

  • Chicken teriyaki meatballs

    • hirsheys on July 08, 2017

This was very delicious. The meatballs have an interesting texture - quite springy and moist.

  • Meatballs Stroganoff

    • hirsheys on July 08, 2017

These were fine, but I wasn't wowed.

    • wester on February 13, 2013

Very easy, very tasty. Made some small changes: button mushrooms instead of cremini, ground almonds instead of breadcrumbs, crème fraîche instead of sour cream, red onion instead of shallot, concentrated beef stock with no extra water, no thickeners. I also kept the meatballs in the pan while I stirred in the cream.

  • Lemongrass-chicken meatballs on rice vermicelli

    • hirsheys on July 08, 2017

Quite good. I used turkey instead of chicken (it's what I had) and broiled the meatballs because I don't have a grill.

  • Curried koftas with tomato raita

    • wester on April 11, 2017

I really liked these, and so did my son. My daughter thought they were just OK. Simple to make and with a subtle curry flavor. I baked them in the oven on high.

  • Ziti with sausage meatballs and broccolini

    • jumali on August 31, 2012

Delicious! I made the meatballs ahead of time and froze them. After that, the rest of the recipe goes very quickly. My sausage was a very coarse grind, so the meatballs had an odd, lumpy-like texture, but they tasted great. Even my meatball-picky husband who prefers his standard beef meatballs in tomato sauce enjoyed this dish.
