      Acidity of the coffee curdled the ice cream base. A spectacular failure.

      This sorbet has great flavor, not overly sweet. Did not use the optional liqueur. Relatively easy to make, unless you don't want seeds, in which case it is necessary to press it through a strainer, which is a bit of a pain. Used frozen garden berries from, I hate to say, 2013, but they still made a fine sorbet.

      Smooth and creamy, lasted in the bowl until eaten. I think it was the cornstarch that helped this attribute.

  • Chocolate "lower-fat" ice cream

      This version of chocolate ice cream won the approval of the ice cream hound AND helped use up some ingredients that had been hanging around. I will admit that "lower fat" probably doesn't mean that much when you consider the amount of sugar. It has a rich flavour and very smooth texture. Success number 3 from this book!

      This was the first recipe I tried when the new ice cream machine arrived. I chilled the custard overnight and the result was a super smooth, RICH (other wise why bother ??) chocolate flavour. The ice cream hound in the house (aka my husband) loved it.

  • Vanilla ice cream, Philadelphia style

      I tried this for ice cream attempt #2 (after a successful chocolate version last weekend ). It is a different style ( i.e. Philadelphia style ) than my first egg based custard attempt but wow - I really liked this. I love plain vanilla Ice cream but I amped this up some more with smashed Skor bar chunks stirred in at end - really delicious.
