      When I made this many years ago, I noted that I "can find a better recipe". This recipe doesn't have any sugar, uses milk instead of buttermilk, and has no melted butter in the batter--three ways in which it is different from my favorite (so far) cornbread recipe (from Deborah Madison's Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone).

      Hmmm...I gave this 4 stars back in 1994, with the suggestion to either use less onion, or perhaps dice them instead. Think I may have to revisit (?) this before rating it for EYB!

      This recipe has earned a spot in my favorites file. It is delicious, easy, and quick. Just add some Hoppin John and cornbread, and you have a soulful meal!

      i look forward to cooking this recipe very year. It is the first thing I think of when pumpkins hit the supermarket! I usually buy an extra pumpkin before Halloween so that I can cook this again for Thanksgiving. This recipe is simple and "cleaner" tasting than the more complicated "Mexican Stew" recipes you will find elsewhere.
