Update posted on the author's website: "“Grandma” from the Amazon reviews program, who lived on the Navajo reservation for several years, says that milk is never used in fry bread. The dish comes out delicious as written, but if you are concerned about authenticity you might want to use water instead and add a few tablespoons of vegetable shortening. I haven’t tested this alternative."

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

What I really enjoy about this recipe is the contrast of the hot, crispy bread to the soft beans, creamy cheese, cool tomatoes, crunchy lettuce, spicy chipotle sauce, and tangy, refreshing guacamole.
