I spend much of my youth in France where I was exposed to their wonderful passion for eating well. My step-mother was a wealthy gourmand who dragged me around to two and three--star restaurants all over Europe (that I wish I'd paid more attention to looking back). A few years ago my wife and I built an amazing kitchen onto our 200 year old home (sort of more sane substitute for a mid-life crises Maserati) and we put it to good use daily cooking for our friends and two teenage daughters. We even resurrected an original bee-hive oven and prepare a lot of recipes in it. It can turn out a perfect wood-fired pizza in 3-minutes flat when fully heated or a beef stew that you just can't get on the stove or in the oven.
