Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Fennel and pea soup

    • Melanie on September 05, 2015

This flavour combination was new to me but I thought it was delicious. Added 1.5L of water and a cup of pasta (optional) to make sure this stretched to 6 meals for us.

  • Chicken arrabiata

    • Melanie on May 30, 2015

This dish was okay, but I don't think I will make it again. The flavour was nice but I didn't love the textures. Needs more time in the oven for the sauce to reduce.

  • Almond and fruit tart

    • Melanie on May 30, 2015

Delicious! I chose to add a layer of plum jam over the tart base and used dried plums as my fruit. Great flavour and texture and keeps well.

  • Pear, chocolate and pistachio cake

    • e_ballad on August 20, 2016

Took much longer than the suggested 1 hour cooking time, so I was surprised that the web link indicates only 30 mins cooking time. Using our oven thermometer, it took just shy of 1.5 hours & was still slightly oozing in the centre. It was tasty & very rich. I suspect the quality of the dark chocolate would influence the flavour significantly as this was the dominant flavouring, more so than the pears, pistachio nuts or orange zest.

Publishers Text

When Italian-born Melbourne chef Rosa Mitchell and her husband Colin bought their farm in central Victoria in the late 1980s, they acquired 20 acres of cleared land running up a volcanic hill, a few fruit trees and a dilapidated, one room milking shed. Within weeks they'd planted grapevines, later adding Italian varietals, and soon had fruit and olive trees thriving on the property. The farm, which has expanded over the years, has always been a special haven for Rosa and her family, a place for good food and wine, and celebratory meals. In this book she shares more recipes for her favourite Italian dishes which, like those in the popular "My Cousin Rosa" are simple, traditional, lovingly prepared and utterly authentic. This title includes: authentic, traditional Italian recipes; delicious, easy-to-prepare food for family feasts and special celebrations; superb photography of recipes inspired by seasonal produce; chapters include 'Eggs, milk and bread', 'Fruit & Nuts', 'From the Garden', 'Wild Harvest, 'Meat & Game', and 'Stocking the larder'.
