Hello,

Us library and information science folk have traditionally dropped the initial article in book titles.  I think that might be helpful if you followed that practice.  Hope this helps!

We wanted the titles to be the same as on the book cover as most of our members aren't librarians and wouldn't know to drop the article.  The search results sorts were meant to ignore the articles but somehow that didn't happen.  We are currently revamping search and part of that is that the sorts will be on the word after the article.  But thanks for the alert anyway.

Hi Jane,

I sort of understand but when you have more than 100 books, they clump around "a" and "the" to the point of beling difficult to retrieve.  Maybe this could be a user option.  I think, ultimately, that not dropping the intitial article is a mistake.  Peole have found materials in libraries for hundreds of years with dropped articles.  The issue has little or nothing to do with the professional qualifications of "most" members, rather it is an information retrieval issue.  I would be willing to bet that you'll need to revisit the issue once you have been up and running for a year.  Trust me!
