"Upload Image" only available for certain recipes?   Go to last post Go to last unread

I just noticed that the "upload image" button isn't available on the pages for some recipes.  Is this intentional or is it a site error that's good to flag when found?  Thanks!

The book has to be on your Bookshelf for you to see a Upload Image button.

Got it - I noticed it with a recipe that's available online but that I hadn't added to my bookshelf.  I'll go ahead and add it now and look again for the button.  Thank you!

I would love it if we could upload images for other recipes as well - or else add them to our bookshelves even if they aren't available online. I often check books out from the library, so I don't own the book, but have made and photographed the dish. I hope you'll consider that.

anya_sf - you can add individual recipes from books not on your Bookshelf as Personal Recipes. If we changed the structure of the database so individual recipes from all books can be added then the site would slow down considerably. Don't ask me to explain the tech behind that - it's what our developers tell me!

I agree with anya_sf!  I can think of a couple of additional situations for which it'd be nice to be able to post a photo without having the book/recipe on ones Bookshelf:

* Recipe reprints in magazines and newspapers.  I have a stack of clippings from which I periodically pull a new recipe - a bunch are reprints from cookbooks vs. recipes developed by the newspaper/magazine staff.

* Online recipes which aren't in EYB (e.g., a number of personal blogs) but which clearly cite a specific cookbook as the source of the recipe.  And for online recipe sources indexed in EYB, it'd be nice to cross-post the photo with the original cookbook.

Updated post:  Just saw that I posted this while you posted your response, Jane.  Thanks for the explanation!

I just noticed that a recipe photo I uploaded is only visible on my phone (from which I uploaded it) but not on my tablet. I've never had that happen before. My photos are not blog worthy but I like to have them here when I've taken one.

Barb_N - what is the recipe? Please add the URL in your reply and I can check why you aren't seeing it. If you see it on one device but not another it is usually a browser issue. Your browser on your tablet cached (saved) that page before you uploaded the image so when you load it again the image doesn't show. Do a page refresh on that page and it should appear.

It is this recipe from Bryant Terry's Vegetable Kingdom: https://www.eatyourbooks...leek-and-seared-mushroom

Mystery solved. You added the image to the recipe on Food52, not to the cookbook recipe.

Oh, thanks for figuring that out!
