The problem is that "German" is listed under two criteria Ethnicity and Country for books and under two criteria Ethnicity and Cuisine for recipes. BUt there are omissions from the Cuisines list which affect other searches I want to make for example Swedish or the larger Scandinavian; the former is there but the latter is not.

Part of my EYB use is to compile an Around the World in 80 Cuisines recipes list which means that German, Italian and Chinese are not exhaustive but exemplars of what I am searching for.

Country as a Books filter is publication country e.g. books published in Germany (not necessarily in the German language and often not German cuisine). Only Ethnicity is the filter for the cuisine country.

In Recipes the only filter by country is for Ethnicity - there are options for Scandinavian as well as all the individual Scandinavian countries. The Browse options below the filters are not filters but just a few quick browse options, mainly there for new members and for SEO reasons. For regular users like yourself we suggest you just use the filters which are much more comprehensive.

Have now worked out what it is that I dislike about the Ethnicity, Country selctors; aside fromt eh word Ethnicity. Thunderously obvious having thought about it.

My focus is on the search box but using those filters requires divererting my eye gaze from the top left of the form to the bottom right of the form and then cascade through the +s of the filters to reach the desired filter value. Makes for what in sign language communities we call "eye strain" or more recently the Wimbledon swivel. Being used to search ssystem (including SQL) I always prefer to type searches like this

TITLE=German and Ethnicity=German not Country=German

I know it is possible after opening the cascades it is possible to invert a fitlter but that then makes for additional eye strain as one must now suddenly return the gaze from the bottom right to the top left before getting a list of the matching books/recipes.
