The order of posts...   Go to last post Go to last unread

Hello Jane and Fiona,

I love the new Reviews/Notes feature on the my Home page and noticed that posts appear in chronological order with the most recent on top.

Would it be possible to display Forum posts in this manner as well?  It would save us scrolling or paging through posts to find what's new and this seems to be the norm in most Forums.

Thanks so much!

For me, the forum posts are listed in reverse chronological order, with most recent first. Click on the "red page" icons to see the most recent reply to a post ...

Interesting Vanessa.  I'm a Mac book & ipad user and I don't have any "red page icons".  I do have two small page icons beside the thread title name in the green banner.  If I click on the second one, it takes me to the last post.

I would find it more convenient to have the newest posts appear first.

I'm using a PC with Firefox. I too have two little icons - the first one is red (for unread posts) and takes me to the latest unread post on that topic, After a post is read, the icon is no longer read.  The second one (which I have previously ignored, takes me to the last post on that topic.

I don't know if I did something a while back so that the latest posts come up first - I just click Forum at the top of the page, and the topics are listed automatically in reverse chronological order with those with the most recent posts or replies listed first.

Vanessa - I think you are talking about something different than Breadcrumbs.  You are talking about how the latest posts are displayed at the top of the Forum by topic with the most recent at the top.  Breadcrumbs is asking that the actual posts within a topic are displayed with the latest at the top.

Breadcrumbs - we actually disagree with your request for thread posts in reverse order - you cannot follow a conversation in reverse.  None of the many food forums that I follow (including ChowHound and eGullet) show posts in reverse chronological order.  I think that they all assume you want to follow the course of the conversation.

However what they do, and EYB does too, is allow you to go to the latest post or to the last unread (by you) post.  There are two icons to the right of the thread name and date/time details - hover your mouse over and you will see one is "Go to last post" and the other is "Go to last unread".  This means you can skip all the thread that you have already read, which achieves the same purpose you want, without new readers having to read backwards when they want to follow a thread from the beginning.
