ThePatheticBaker - a fundamental difference between the EYB recipe search engine and most others is that EYB has an ingredients database whereas most others are word searches. The reason we chose this approach is that we wanted our ingredients search to be precise and international. The precision comes through using the filters which are an exact database match. For example with word searches a search by chicken will also show all recipes with chicken stock, chicken seasoning, chicken fat, etc. On EYB when you apply the filter "Chicken pieces" or "Chicken whole" you will only see recipes containing chicken meat.
Because EYB is an international site we also felt it was important to link all different uses of an ingredient name so a search by one ingredient will show results for all other variant names.
The drawback of a ingredients database is that any data import has to match to the name in the database. Recipe writers use lots of different ways to describe ingredients which will confuse an import. We know this well as we do import ingredients for our blog indexes and the results require a full proofread in order to correct mis-matches. Unfortunately members do not always apply the same proofreading skills. For that reason we decided it was safer to have members add the ingredients from the recipe rather than an import/proofread. Also although the GBBO site has clearrly marked Ingredients in the HTML this is not always the case. We know from our own blog data imports how much variety there is in recipe coding.
I'm not sure from your description where you were adding the ingredients you list. You cannot add 500g plain flour with extra for dusting - the ingredient is plain flour or rather all-purpose flour [plain flour] as plain flour is a variant. When you add ingredients to a recipe you need to type the ingredient name in the Ingredients field then select from the menu that displays. You then see the ingredient name appear above the data entry field and you enter the next ingredient. I suggest you take a look at our Personal Recipes and Bookmarklet Manual in Help.
