Hi there,

My name is Bec & I have come across an issue - which is quite likely a user issue - when searching for recipes based on ingredients.

For a bit of context, I receive a CSA box weekly, so I plan my recipes around the ingredients that are available. Hence why EYB is a very helpful resource.

I prefer to cook from my books rather than from online recipes when possible, so recently I searched by bookshelf (to only show book recipes) for 'corn' as it was an ingredient we received. Of the few dozen cookbooks I have, only three recipes were returned for corn, and some recipes which I am aware of did not show up. 

For example these two corn-based recipes in Stephanie Alexander's Kitchen Garden Companion were not in my search results:

I have tried playing around with some different search options, but cannot get these recipes to show up in my search results (so I wonder what else may not be coming up in the ingredient search). 

Is anyone able to help me with this trouble I am having? I hope my explanation has made sense.

Bec, I'm not sure why a search in your Bookshelf for "corn" did not retrieve those two recipes for you!  Both recipes contain "corn" in the title and 'corn' in the Ingredients, either of which should cause those recipes to be retrieved.  And when you search just within that Stephanie Alexander book, both of those recipes come up -- in fact, those are the only two "corn" recipes in the book! I can't replicate your exact search since I don't have your Bookshelf -- did you check any of the "Only Show" boxes or otherwise filter your search?

Thanks for the quick reply and it seems like perhaps that is all I needed!

I did another search for 'corn' and now I received 93 results, including the recipes in the Stephanie Alexander book. When I changed the view to the thumbnails (using the options on the right above where the results are displayed, it then limited the results to just 3 recipes.

So I must have been searching with this thumbnail view all long, thereby limiting the results (I am guessing) to those recipes with an image. When it is under on of the two list view options, I can see all 93 results.

You are quite right, Becklemas - the thumbnail option shows only recipes for which we have images.  It is intended to give an easy guide to recipe images and is most relevant when searching online recipes, since they are mainly the ones for which we have images.
