I have my grandmother's old 1916 edition of the White House Cookbook. All the recipes are written for a wood stove. Years ago I tried making a cake from it in my electric oven relying on the Betty Crocker cookbook for the temperature and time settings. It came out great! I have seen these old books around every so often in used book stores. The recipes are sometimes a bit vague about measurements but are pretty fun to read and cover an amazing number of dishes. There are also lots of handy housekeeping hints in the back chapters that are a hoot to read. My grandmother received this as a wedding gift and was a wonderful cook.

I just found the White House Cook Book on the wonderful Internet Archive.  You can download it here.  It's quite amazing how much it covers.
