As a member, and one who has indexed three of my own books, I'm in two minds about this. Certainly if a nonmember indexes a book that benefits us all. On the other hand, indexing is not straightforward, and I know from my experience that one of the paid indexers (thank you Sydney, I hope they pay you well!) takes a great deal of time in checking and correcting members indexing, all done very graciously and in the interests of maintaining their high standards. And it costs money to maintain the site. I was a "free" member for a while before I joined, and I reckon it's $25 well spent. After all, the cookbooks on my shelves must have cost ten times that. And rising!
