Searching: excluding recipes   Go to last post Go to last unread

Sometimes I use a recipe and decide it is not worth a repeat. However, when I search e.g. for a particular ingredient, that recipe will still appear. Is there a way to tag individual recipes so they don't appear in a search - sounds harsher than I mean, but rather like an "unfavourites" so I could do a search like Lemons NOT Unfavourites?

Sorry, that's not a feature we have.  I'll add it to our to-do list - no promises when though!

@bohfive: Something that might help in the meantime is to give your 'unfavorites' a bookmark with that name or something similar; that way you'll be able to spot them more easily and ignore when reviewing the results of a search.

Ellabee's idea is a good one -- I also keep a Bookmark for recipes I don't want to cook again -- I call it 'X-Rated' so that it's always listed at the very bottom of my alphabetical list of bookmarks.  I have another suggestion as well.  When you discover a recipe that you don't like, give it a very low star rating.  Then, when you search, ask for the search to be sorted by 'Rating.'  That way, recipes with a low number of stars will appear below those with a high number.  This only goes so far, though, since any recipes that haven't been rated at all will appear below the low-star recipes.

Thanks Laura and ellabee. I like the idea of bookmarking with a name - at least I would be able to easily "see and skip". Time to learn about bookmarking.... The journey continues, thanks for the company :-)

Laura I use a similar method - my bookmark is called "Yuck!"

Evocative -- and conveniently late in the alphabet!

I've found that you can use the filters to exclude categories. Eg. in recipes I searched for the word "violet" (it's an uncommon ingredient so it's easier to test). Then added the filter Europe then clicked on the little green plus so it became a red minus. No longer were the recipes from France and Italy in the list of my recipes, but the ones which didn't have a defined ethnicity, or were other than European, were still there. It's not an exact science, but might get you closer to what you're looking for.
