Greetings from Moscow, Idaho.

I'm working on getting together a group of local "foodies" to form a cooking club. We will be exploring and cooking recipes from the cookbooks on our shelves. Of course, I immediately thought of how I could incorporate EYB into the club.

I'd like to encourage the "sharing" of cookbooks amongst our group. Therefore, it would be helpful if we could "tag" or "favorite" other users so we could easily see what's on our group's shelves.

Would you be interested in adding this feature?

EYB is a valuable resource and I am oh-so grateful for the service you provide. I applaud the work you've done and I'm delighted that you continue to exceed my expectations.

Many thanks,

Lucy Zoe

Lucy Zoe.....If I click on your name, I can see a list of cookbooks we have in common and additional list of other books you have. Looks like the feature you mentioned is already here (although I guess we can't tag yet).  I like the idea of sharing because if someone likes a lot of the same books tha I like, chances are, I will like other books that you like.  I am also putting a cooking and dining group together.  I like your idea about using EYB for ideas for the group.

Thanks lucyzoe for your kind words.  You can actually view any members' Bookshelves already though it's not very easy.  You just have to fiind their username, either in the Forum or on any of the Bookshelves lists (the heads icon below every book title).  Probably the easiest way to do it is to find out one book your friends own and how many in total they have.  Then search for that book, look at the Bookshelves list which is sorted in order by number of Bookshelves then click on your friend's username.

We do plan to greatly improve the social networking side of the site and it should be happening in the next few months.  You will then have "friends" and you will be able to see when they add new books, make Notes on books and Recipes, add posts on the Forum, etc. as well of course easily see their Bookshelves.

One other suggestion I have in the meantime is that you set up a Free membership with just the current book you are all cooking from on there.  You can all access the membership to view the book recipes - you just need to share the username and password.  Don't forget to add reviews (Notes) for all the recipes you cook!  Then all the members of your group can see the other Notes that members post by looking at the Notes tab for the book, which lists all recipe Notes as well.  As the Notes will be in the name of your Cookbook group, each member will need to add their name after their recipe review.  It will be really interesting to see which recipes the members choose to cook, what they thought of it, what recommendations they make.  You will have a much better feeling of cooking along together.  And it won't cost them anything!

Ah Jane...You're such a clever girl.

You're right. Finding a friend is currently doable, but not so user friendly. I have no doubt the social networking changes you're making to the site will be great. I look forward to using them.

Your last suggestion is brilliant. Not only will it encourage the use of EYB, but it will also allow those who are unable to purchase a subscription to still access the cookbook/notes.

Thank you!

Thanks Lucy Zoe - I was quite pleased with that idea myself!  Now we have to work out how we can spread the word to all the cookbook clubs out there in the world.  Also there are quite a few groups who cook along together from the latest issue of a magazine like Cooking Light.

I'm a member of the Culinary Guild of New England and we are going to use the same set-up for a new cookbook group they are starting.
