Linking new edition to previous book   Go to last post Go to last unread

I've been working my way thru my library and see several instances where, unable to locate the US edition,  I "shelved" UK or Australian editions of my books.  I mostly have caught this because the name is slightly different. Meera Sodha's Made in India vs Made in India, Cooked in Britian  as an example. If I were to upload the isbn of the US edition, would it get linked to the one already there?  The existence of the index matters more to me than the name, but still.

Thanks

If a book has very different titles then we will copy over the recipe index rather than linking the editions. The drawback of this is that ratings, notes and reviews are not then shared across the editions. Made in India had the same basic title so we linked it. The easiest way to make sure you get the edition you own on your Bookshelf is to import the ISBN number (Import books is under the My Bookshelf tab). If the book is in the Library it gets added immediately to your Bookshelf. If we don't have it yet we import the data from Amazon and it goes into the Library and onto your Bookshelf. If Amazon doesn't have the book then we cannot add it.

You can see every linked edition for any indexed book - click the links icon on the book listing in the Library. Another way is to click the Details tab on the book details page, which you get to by clicking the book title. You can see the details page (and the +Bookshelf button) for any linked edition by clicking on the ISBN number.

If we have missed an edition being linked to the indexed book (this is most likely to happen if a new edition comes out after we have indexed the book) then please let us know and we will link it.
