I have a few thousand cookbooks. As a newbie, I am trying to add them to my EYB shelf, finding I have books not in the system. Any way to add them?

Hi Shelmar - you add books that you cannot find in the Library by importing the ISBN. Import Books is under the My Bookshelf tab at the top. If the book is already in the Library but "hidden" because it is linked to an indexed edition, it will be added immediately to your Bookshelf. If the book is not in the Library, we will try to download the book data from Amazon. This will usually happen within a few hours. If Amazon doesn't have the book so we cannot download the data then we cannot add it at this time. We do plan to add a feature that will allow members to add their own book data. There is a Help page on this feature.

I think the book is too old to have ISBN, as I have books over a hundred years old. But I am likely to have ones that this tip will help me add.

The data for pre-ISBN books would have to added manually. We don't have the resources to do that though we will do it if a member wants to index the book. But once we add the feature that allows members to add their own book data, the ISBN number would not then be required.

How would one go about adding a book which only has an ASIN on Amazon? I tried via the ISBN noted in the actual book without luck.

I have quite few which fit that pattern. For example Wholesome by Sarah Graham

Simonemonika12345, often the ASIN on Amazon is associated with an ebook/Kindle version of the title involved; Amazon doesn't always include the ISBN of ebooks in their book listings. I was able to find an ISBN for both the print and ebook editions of Wholesome on the South African publisher's website, so I've created records for them in the EYB Library: Wholesome (hardcover) and Wholesome (ebook).

As to why the ISBN's you've tried to import didn't work, were the books published in South Africa? That might have something to do with it; they might not be cataloged on Amazon at all and/or are not coded as food-/drink-related, so Import Books doesn't recognize them as cookbooks.

Thank you, Deborah!

Yes, the book is published in South Africa. I live there. I have another 25-30 cookbooks which I wasn't successful in adding via the ISBN on the import books section. Any idea how I go about adding them? They publishers are mainly Struik Lifestyle and Quivertree. Quite a few of the books I can see on amazon.com as ebooks. I am aware they will never be indexed but it would be great to have the titles on the bookshelf. So while I have them as actual hardcovers/paperbacks I wouldn't mind if they added as ebooks if the amazon connection makes it possible to add them in an automated way. The following one would be another example:
