First, the question... any ETA on "index your own cookbooks?"  I have been sorting my books as I add them, and I have several shelves of (mostly older) cookbooks which are not in EYB.  Also have a mountain of clipped recipes, and will be using EYB to index those as well.

Now the comment ... I think you have a few too many social software options.  I find myself wandering among the blog, the various forums, the community, looking for information about "what's new."    I actually work for a company which develops social software, and this happens to us too... we try to use all of the new cool tools, but if there are too many, then it can take *longer* to find information.

I do like EYB, very much!

That is so funny - I literally just read your post after we had put up a new Community page with links to Forum posts and other news we had found on the web.  Take a look and see if it is the type of thing you want.

On the subject of indexing your own books and recipes, it is still a way off.  Our immediate big project is expanding the EYB Library to over 100,000 cookbooks which will be in the next couple of weeks.  After that is the improved search for books and recipes which should be complete by the end of June.  Then we will be moving on to member indexing.

This may be a silly question - but when a member chooses to personally index a cookbook, will that indexing also be available to other members who own the same book?

Yes, any indexing of entire books will be available to all members.  You will also be able to index personal recipes that will just be available to you - family recipes, clippings, etc.  There also is no reason why you couldn't index as personal just your favorite recipes from unindexed books if you wanted.  Though we hope that if members share the load of indexing we will end up with a fantastic resource that everyone can share.  We will of course carry on with indexing new books and most requested books.
