Hello Jane & Fiona,

I seem to have been bookmarking a lot of recipes lately and I don't know how my times my efforts have been foiled because I inadvertently click on the "New" button in the bottom right corner of the pop-up box vs the "Save" button that appears beside the pull-down menu.

Is there any reason the "New" button needs to appear at all if you've already opted to select a bookmark from your existing list?

Somehow it seems intuitive to click in the bottom corner to save and unfortunately...that's where the "New" button appears.  I also think it stands out more because it's larger.

Who knows, maybe I'm the only person w this issue... but I thought it was worth mentioning just in case.

Breadcrumbs, you need the new button to type in a new category. I had to retrain myself becuse the new format interchanged the positions of the new and save buttons and I was makingthe same mistake at first.

Hi Cati, thanks and I'm glad I'm  not the only one having an issue!!  I do realize why the new button exists but what I'm getting at is that when I'm selecting something from the pull-down, the "New" button is irrelevent.  I'm wondering if it can be disabled or even better, disappear when a member has elected to select from an existing bookmark (which I think  would be the default operation...used much more frequently than new).

Alternatively, I'm wondering if "New" or a blank space could just appear in the pulldown so if we needed to add a bookmark, we could select new or, start typing in a blank space on the pulldown menu.

Relieved to find it's not just me.  Just before I read this thread, I'd realized what was causing my bookmarking attempts to explode, and heaved a sigh as I resolved to pay attention and re-train myself.

This is a particular irritant for more longstanding and more active members, so I hope the fix is small enough in comparison to the problem for it to move it up the list.

A related irritant is that the entry box for filtering by bookmarks (in the right-hand sidebar when viewing 'My Bookshelf') works differently than the one for assigning a bookmark to an item. Specifically, it doesn't allow you to enter a letter and jump to the first bookmark beginning with that letter; you can only use the mouse. Nor does it allow you to use the up or down arrows, as you can when assigning bookmarks.

As my bookmarks grow, this is increasingly a PITA. If at all possible, PLEASE make the filter-by-bookmark entry respond to keyboard commands in the same way as the dialog box for bookmarking.

Just bumping this to ensure it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.  I continue to struggle w this issue and wonder whether others are having any issues?

Me again!  Pretty please...restore the Save box to the bottom right. I just added reviews to at least 12 books and it just isn't intuitive at the moment.  Please...

I would be interested to know other member's views on this as I feel exactly the opposite to Breadcrumbs.  I think that the majority of times you are adding an existing bookmark so it makes more sense to have the Save button right next to the selection box.  Since you only add a new Bookmark once it should not be the button that is most accessible.

ellabee - I have asked our developer to assess how big a job that is.  I will give feedback soon.

I got used to the change quickly and it does seem more logical to have the button next to the space you have been working on. If there are going to be changes I am more interested in seeing page numbers at the top of the page as well as the bottom.

This is not the most important bug/irritant on my list either, despite the fact that I'm not succeeding as well as Cati in retraining myself -- just came here from adding several bookmarks and began the session with the erroneous clicking of 'new'.  The reason it's hard to adjust is that having the 'New' button hang down in the lower right violates a convention of dialog boxes, which is that a prominent or solo button near the lower right is the 'save' [or generically, 'OK'] button.

Jane, thanks for looking into the question of having the 'filter by' bookmark entry work more like assigning bookmarks.

I'm fresh from a session of assigning twenty or so bookmarks to recipes (dishes of interest in my new copy of Herbal Kitchen). Here's what is really the problem with that dialog box: You can't hit the enter key to choose Save (as the default).

I'm someone who uses the keyboard a lot, and that's why it's so great to be able to jump to bookmarks by letter, and advance through the bookmarks that begin with that letter just by repeating it. But to actually assign the bookmark, I have to take my hand off the keyboard, use the touchpad (or mouse), move the cursor over to the 'Save' button, and click it.  Even if I've trained myself to reach for the mouse as soon as I reach the bookmark I want to assign, it's still tempting to head for the 'New' button, hanging out there with a lot of space around it, rather than 'Save' tucked up there by the bookmark name.

A lot of EYB users are probably using a mouse/touchpad exclusively for this process, sometimes even when entering text. But for those of us who are keyboard people, this change would make a world of difference.

ellabee you hit the nail on the head, I talked w our IT folks and it's because the convention is that the save/agree/enter button is positioned in the bottom right that it's intuitive to click the bottom right button after entering information. If anything, its a refresh or " x" (delete) command typically is located beside a text box.

It's "because" Save is the most common command we'll use that it should be in the bottom right corner per design convention IMHO.

I noticed that when adding recipes there is no way to create a new bookmark while you are first adding them. You can only add the the new bookmark once a recipe is in the system. Is there some way you can add that feature as it is at the time of adding the recipe that one is thinking about bookmarks and it's inefficient to remember to go back later.

Robin - I know this isn't what you are asking for, but if you see a recipe you want to add to EYB, think about if it needs a new bookmark and add it before you click Add to EYB recipes.  Then the new bookmark will appear in your drop down choices.

I'm not sure if adding a new Bookmark is possible when using the Bookmarklet but I will ask our developers.

I have done it that way (by additng a new bookmark before I post a new recipe) but it would be more efficient and easier if it could be done at the same time... seems like it ought to be possible... thanks for looking into it!

For some reason I'm just getting notified that there's activity in this topic, but there's nothing since 6 days ago... ?

That is strange!  There was a spam post on the "Notification of an indexed book" which I deleted, though there seems to be a bug as it has not deleted properly. Someone may have posted and then deleted their comment.

You might want to check further as it happened twice in succession. Once on this post and once on my other post about an app. Both times, nothing new was there. I did, after checking it, correct a typo in my post, but nothing happened after that. Very strange!
