I know you guys have your hands full with indexing so many cookbooks, but I wonder if you've given any thought to doing this for the most popular magazines.

Cook's, Bon Appetit, Fine Cooking, etc.

I'm not complaining...............just asking if you think it might be somewhere in the future plans.

Yes it is definitely in our plans - it's actually much easier to index magazines than cookbooks (far fewer recipes) and we know what a useful service this would be to magazine subscribers.  We are also adding a feature soon that will allow you to index personal recipes - clippings, family recipes, etc that will be part of your personal Bookshelf.

I can't wait for that - I think it will be very useful.  I've been cooking a long time, and a lot of my cookbooks that were written in the 60's and 70's aren't listed here.  But many of them have old 'tried and true' recipes that I always fall back on.

While I'm asking for the moon, is there a way to import our personal index of recipes from the major software programs like MasterCook, Living Cookbook, Big Oven, etc?  (I use LC).

We can look into that.  We are adding a feature that will allow EYB members to import book data from their own spreadsheets or other book cataloging sites such as LibraryThing or GoodReads.  So it should also be possible to do recipe data imports.  Do you know if LC allows data exports?

Jane,  I've asked that question on their support forum.  I'll let you know what they say.  http://www.radiumforums.com/showthread.php?t=29817

I'd love to have cooking magazines added to this database, too! That would be terrific!

Jane, apparently I can export data.  I was given the following instructions.  Apparently I can export as FDX, HTM, MXP, MX2, MMI, or TXT.   Is there something on that list you can use?

Hello,

Thanks for that link, it looks like a fun online community!

You can export from Living Cookbook in a variety of formats. Considering the destination in this case, I would opt for .txt or .htm. Ask the forum administrator which they'd prefer.

1) Launch Living Cookbook, and select the cookbook that you'd like to export.

2) Choose Export from the File menu. Specify either Plain Text (.txt) or HTML (.htm).

3) Click Next. Specify the destination, click Next again.

4) Click Finish.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance!

Thanks for getting that information.  I will pass it along to our developers and see how it could be incorporated into our proposed "personal recipes" feature.
