Searched for baguette recipes in "My Bookshelf". My search was the simple word "baguette" and found three kinds of recipes:

• Recipes for baguettes


• Recipes using baguettes


• Recipes that neither are for nor using baguette

The second group, the using, can be excluded (most of anyway) by using the Ingredient filter by classification and then under baked goods selected Bread and finally excluding "French Bread". I did not notice any of the fors being taken out.

However, this still left me with the neither group. Looking at the listings for each of these erroneous results I could see nothing that would have satisfied the original search term. For example, https://www.eatyourbooks...-salad-of-smoked-chicken (much as I love Darina Allen's work this result has nothing to do with baguettes), https://www.eatyourbooks...mpote-compote-des-fruits (again love Michel Roux Jr's work but nothing to do with baguettes).Maybe some of these extraneous results are picking the word "French" but that individual term is not in my search or exclusion criteria.

I am begining to distrust and lose faith in the recipe search feature.

This is a known anomoly in the ingredients word search. It looks for all instances of the word plus all linked ingredients. In the examples you give you are seeing recipes with the words French and stick as a linked ingredient for baguette is French stick. The solution to your issue is to specify in filters that you want to include the Ingredient / Baked goods / Bread / French. Now you are only seeing recipes containing baguette. There will be some other French breads but they will only appear later in your searches as baguette recipes will be at the top as most relevant. This is that filter applied to Online Recipes.

Thanks I will try that in this specific case but the generalisation requires knowledge of how things might be indexed in the database something only find out when the specific search fails by adding in irrelevant items.

It's best to assume that a search using filters will be more precise that a word search. The word search looks for the words in book title, author name, recipe title and ingredients (and linked ingredients). So it is very likely there will be unexpected results. Whereas filters are a direct match to the database. Most filters will be fairly obvious but if they are not then looking at the numbers next to each filter will help you narrow down which filters are the best match to your search. So for example you want to find recipes containing mayonnaise but not recipes for mayonnaise. Enter mayonnaise in the word search. In Online Recipes there are 14,165 results. Looking at Ingredients filters you see the HIghest number is against Pantry ingredients. Click that and the highest number is Condiments & sauces. Then you see Mayonnaise. Select that and there are now 12,948 recipes containing mayonnaise. Likewise, if you wanted recipes for making mayonnaise you would instead follow the trail in Recipe Type filters to Sauces, general and see 2,475 recipes.
