I'm traveling to Sicily later this year and would like to pick up one or two books to cook from and to read about food culture, history, regional specialties, etc. I thrifted one recently but it is very basic. There are a number listed on EYB and if you have recommendations I'd love to hear them.

I from memory have 2 which I'd recommend. The first being The Sicily Cookbook by Cettina Vinenzino which is currently only £1.99 in the UK Kindle store. The other recommendation is Coming Home To Sicily by  Fabrizia Lanza from which I had the slow cooked octopus in red wine (page 178) which was delicious. Anyway hope you have a great trip!

Lucky you!  I finally made it there last year and it was wonderful.  To begin with, let me recommend Pomp and Sustenance: Twenty-Five Centuries of Sicilian Food by Mary Taylor Simeti.  Then there are the books by Wanda and Giovanna Tornabene.

These are all on my shelf. I recommend them to you. All UK published so thankfully all in grams ... 😎 The Matthew Fort book is more of a travelogue with recipes and very funny.

We visit Sicily as often as we can. The food is very simple and always superb. It's a bit north African, a bit Greek and a lot Italian. Have a great time.

I just returned from a two month trip in Sicily. I can recommend The Food of Sicily by Fabrizia Lanza, recently published. I bought the book before I went on my trip to read ahead about the foods. Now that I’m home, this book is a delight and filled with recipes for many of the dishes we ate in Sicily. I can’t wait to try making some of them, starting with arancine. The author has a cooking school in the country south of Palermo and her recipes seem authentic and well tested.
If you haven’t gone already, have an amazing trip!
