Hi Kaliedra,
Unfortunately, you are only able to add an individual recipe from a cookbook or magazine to your Bookshelf if it also has an online link. The idea behind this is that any recipe with an online link is accessible to everyone, so everyone has the ability to add those recipes to their Bookshelf. However, in the case of individual recipes in a book or magazine that are not also available online, they are only accessible to those who own the physical item and we are afraid that allowing anyone to add them individually to their Bookshelf would result in confusion.
For many of the magazines we index, a large number of the recipes have online links to the magazine's website (and thus can be added to your Bookshelf individually), but Cook's Illustrated and Cooks' Country unfortunately do not have online links. This is because the CI site has a paywall for much of their content and in our experience, the content that is available for free is only free for a limited time period. So any links we potentially could add, we know will the unavailable in the future, so we do not link to them. I know this doesn't help your particular situation, but I hope it helps explain why things are set up the way they are.
