Hello!
I frequently cook out of books I borrow from my local public library. I would very much like to bookmark the fact I’ve made it and maybe post a picture. I realize that I can add notes to any recipe and do so.

I'm afraid you do have to have a recipe on your Bookshelf in order to bookmark it. Bookmarks are a function of your Bookshelf, not the Library. You can add notes and photos for recipes not on your Bookshelf though. One way around the issue of bookmarking is to see if you can find the recipe online - either email us or add a note with the link and I will then add the online link to the recipe. You can then add the recipe to your Bookshelf. Just a warning though, we cannot always add links, especially for new cookbooks, as publishers have imposed limits on how many links we can add.

Another option is to add the recipe as a personal recipe. This is espcially useful if you copied the recipe from the borrowed book so now have the recipe available and want it in your searches. Once the recipe is on your Bookshelf you can bookmark it. Though any notes or photos you add to that recipe will not be visible to any other members, so maybe add in both places if you can.

Hi Jane -

I'm also interested in being able to bookmark recipes from books I don't own.  When I see a positive comment from an EYB member on an interesting-sounding dish, it'd be nice to have an easy way to bookmark the recipe.  If I start to see a collection of bookmarks forming for a particular book, I'd take it as a sign that I might like to purchase that book!  It's similar in some ways to the Wish List idea other members have talked about but would be based on recipes rather than books.

You mentioned in your earlier response that the Bookmark capability is associated with My Bookshelf only and not the Library.  Does that mean it wouldn't be possible to create this capability in the future (or that it'd require a seriously outsized effort)?  Or that it's not currently a capability but could potentially be created in the future?

I came across this post while looking if it's possible to make a wish list of cookbooks I do not own, but I may like to buy. But I think being able to bookmard recipes beforehand sounds fantastic too!

For a wishlist though, I'd love to be able to mark books that look interesting and share my wishlist with others (a not so sublte hint to my bf...lol)
