Adding *all* my old magazines..   Go to last post Go to last unread

[has this been already addressed?]  I have a wonderful collection of old cooking magazines, 10 years worth of each one (all old Gourmets now saved, after the sad demise of my favorite magazine).  Is there a way to add an entire magazine collection to my tabs when the collection is indexed?  IOW, without having to individually click on each old issue of Bon Appetit, Cooks' Illustrated, Saveur, etc., can I just wrap the whole collection you have in the database and add it to my bookshelf?  Once I add the magazine, will I then automatically get the future months' issues added, or must I click on each magazine each month as it is indexed?

BTW, OK, I am OCD about this, but I organize mags by month, not one year's worth.  All BA's and Gourmets are in one set of magazine folders, but all January's are together, all Augusts, etc.  Seasonally, I don't have to paw through gingerbread covers when I'm really wanting some info on using up the flood of tomatoes on my counter after a September harvest.  Until recently, I have taken the 10+ year issue and sorted/clipped/filed what I wanted and discarded the rest of the magazine, keeping active only those issues newer than 10 years.  Recently changed this, had to buy more magazine files, find more shelf space...you know how it goes.  Anyway, I'm a happy camper and EYB's new indexing forces me to flip through old issues and discover tons more than I originally went looking for.

We do plan to simplify the adding of magazines to your Bookshelf, both by adding every issue and by automatically updating you with the latest issue.

Honestly, Jane, I love EYB and your team's willingness to adapt whenever possible. Still exceeding MY expectations. I'm so thankful.

A quick tip on adding magazines.  If you use the Expand/Collapse slider on the right of the search box, you can view 200 issues at one time.  If you add the name of the magazine in the Search Box, it's very quick just to scroll down clicking on the Add Bookshelf Button.  I added all 119 Cook's Illustrated magazines in just 2.5 minutes - not bad for being able to search all CI recipes for the last 18 years!

Hoop-A!!!  Using the expand slider is super-simple.  Works like a charm.  Thx, you guys...you're the greatest, and we all appreciate how quickly you respond to forum questions.

An update on this one - we've just released a new version of the site today, the major new feature is personal recipe indexing, but I wanted to let you know we've made it much easier to add magazines to your Bookshelf.

When you click on +Bookshelf you will be given the option to 'subscribe' to the magazine, so every month as we add a new issue it will automatically be added to your Bookshelf.   In addition, you can specify the months you want to add.   So if you've been subscribing to a magazine since February 2007, just enter that date to start and it will add all issues of the magazine until the current month.
