I have just purchased my first cookery eBook (Home Cooking Made Easy by Lorraine Pascale). Although I love to sit and browse through my cookery books, I think that eBooks are a great solution to the storage space issue, and therefore another excuse to keep expanding my collection.

Whenever I cook from an online recipe, I tend to print it out first. However, I now plan on experimenting with cooking directly from the electronic versions of recipes in order to decide whether or not to purchase more books in this format. I intend to use my favourite gadget, my iPad2, but would be interested to hear what other EYB members think about using cookery eBooks, and also any opinions on using them on a Kindle.

I'm pleased to see that EYB already recognises eBook formats. It would be nice to see an additional filter to search this format, similar to  the Online Recipe filter.

One other small request - please can you link the U.K. version of 'My Favourite Ingredients by Skye Gyngell' to the U.S. version, as I see that the latter is indexed.

I have now been an EYB member for almost 12 months and I use the site virtually every day. Many thanks for all the additional features - it just gets better and better.

My Favourite Ingredients UK editions are now linked to the indexed book. We had been intending to index the UK version as well as the US, since Skye is Australian born and based in London, but the priorities have been to get as many new books indexed as possible.

I'm not clear why you want an eBook filter for recipes.  An eBook is just a format, like Hardcover, Paperback, etc.  You could add eBook as a Bookmark for yourself then just search in those books. However, if it looks like this is an extra filter that many members want then we will certainly consider it.  I can see how it would be useful if you are away from home and only have the electronic or online recipes available to you.

Thanks for the kind words about EYB.  It's always a great feeling of accomplishment when a major new feature, such as member indexing, goes live.

Thanks Jane,

The reason for requesting the additional feature is as you correctly guessed, is for when I am away from home (which is quite often). However, I will follow your suggestion and create a new bookmark instead.

Many thanks for linking the U.K. and U.S. versions  of 'My Favourite Ingredients' so quickly.

Sue21 - I have bought a couple of ecookbook from Amazon for my Kindle. I found that they are very easy to read from cover to cover just like non cookbookaholics read a novel.  I found that Julia Child's Kitchen Wisdom was a good read and will also be a great reference for the basics when I am away form home.  I think the travel aspect brings ebooks into their own space - very portable.  With a Kindle (and I suspect the Ipad) you can also download word documents which means that you can keep an e collection of your favourite receipts with you at all times.

Sue21   I have been wondering about buying Cookery Books on my Kindle but have hesitated becauseI didnt know if it would be easy to find a particular recipe. Since Kindle doesnt have page numbers I couldnt visualise how I would manage it. I find it hard enough when reading fiction if i lose my place if someone else has played with the device.

chrisguzzi and Cati - thank you for your thoughts (and sorry for the delay in replying chris - I somehow  managed to miss your post).

I have found that it is easy to use the iPad in the kitchen and work directly from the electronic recipes. However, I have since purchased another ebook format cookery book, and I think that some of the electronic indexes leave a little to be desired. The index of the first book is a little messy, and in the index of the latest box, it is only possible to 'jump' directly to different sections of the book, but not to individual recipes, so this involves quite a lot of electronic 'page-turning'.

As you mentioned, there are no page numbers, but I use the bookmark function to keep my place, and on the bottom of the iPad screen it is also possible to scroll between pages. I look forward to obtaining more cookery books in this format, and hopefully a few more improvements from the publishers to make them a little more 'user friendly' to search.

Cati,

I buy them from both and get them delivered directly to my iPad - the books from the  iTunes store appear on my bookshelf, and I have downloaded the Kindle App which is where the ebooks from Amazon appear.

Speaking of ebooks, Essential Pepin is only 9.99 on Amazon and the videos play beautifully on the IPad through the Kindle App.
