Using "the" as the beginning word in an indexed title.   Go to last post Go to last unread

1) I think that using "the" as the first word of a title is a flawed system.  Im currently looking at the book MARTHA STEWART LIVING COOKBOOK  which is how I refer to it, but, lo and behold, there's a very small "the" at the beggining of the title.  AND the "THE" section of the this index is already getting way too unwieldy.  One could just enter "(The)" followed by the second word of the title and use the SECOND word as the INDEXED word.  This book's index line would look like this:

(The)Martha Stewart Living Cookbook    --thus it would be listed under the M's, not the T's

If you scroll thru the 900 plus books in inventory now, (and the kazillion more that may be added in the future) I think you'll  see the seaching advantage of NOT using "the" as an indexing word.   Any other thoughts?

This is strange as all sorts used to ignore The, A, An and the results would be displayed by the second word as you suggest.  I think something must have glitched in the re-coded version of the website when it went up on the new server.  We will get it sorted.  The indexed books list (which may be what you are referring to) is a short-term solution to get indexed books available for members.  We will be changing this to a search term so then The, A will be ignored.

The indexed lists are fixed now - both lists by title and by author now ignore The, A, An.  Hope to get all other searches fixed soon too.
