'Revolutionary French Cooking' is an amazing buy at £0.99, I think I paid £1.99 for it a few weeks ago.

These Kindle cookbooks look much better on an Ipad or an Android tablet using a Kindle app, rather than a Kindle ebook reader. This one has lots of lovely colour pictures that look really good on my Samsung Galaxy S tablet.

Smoke & Pickles by Edward Lee is $2.99 on Amazon now. It is well worth it, especially at that price-great book not just for recipes but also the writing.

Thanks TrishaCP. I'm going to check it out especially since we just got a new bbq/smoker!

TrishaCP-
How do you find these deals? When I search e cookbooks the 'bargains' are never great cookbooks.

I published a cookbook on Kindle a while ago - it's a catalogue of the family recipes I wrote for my daughter when she went to University called 'What4teaMum?' (£3.49). I take it on holiday and trips with me so I always have my favourites with me on the move. I'm thinking of publishing an updated version with all my blog recipes in it and including photos as I couldn't do that last time. Well worth looking at kindle although I do love my actual physical books.

In a nutshell, can you explain how you publish in Kindle? I would love to create a family cookbook, for me as well as for the 5 daughters and 10 grandchildren. I have a binder system now, but it is cumbersome if I want to add to it (physically) as well as distributing it to various relatives. Pictures too? Sounds wonderful. I would be more than happy to purchase my own book in order to give it to my kids.

Well, I'm not sure how techy you are, but first you have to write up all your recipes in a Word doc and then convert it into a special file so that Kindle can publish it and it needs an interactive index so that readers can navigate from the index to the recipe pages. The instructions on the Kindle publisher website are quite straightforward and they have a lot of templates that you can use. I wrote my recipes up in Word originally and turned into a pdf that I could use in iBooks just for myself and my daughter (which you could do very easily) but then people encouraged me to make it publicly available. I'd already written several other books (nothing to do with cooking) so I had a bit of a head start. It is quite time consuming but well worth the effort, I use mine all the time. Does that help?

Thx, Pigeon, that is a good "nutshell" overview.  Looks like my best bet is continuing on to the Kindle publisher website.

Hi Barb,

I usually search Amazon's best-sellers for kindle cookbooks. Sometimes there is nothing interesting....and sometimes there is!

rivergait -- I'm not too familiar with the Amazon publishing process, but I've been very happy with the books I've made using Blurb -- I've only personally made print photo books, but I know there are also ebook options and templates for cookbooks. I thought I'd mention it in case you wanted to look into other options. It's been a while since I made a book, but I remember it being very easy to use their tools and layouts and thought the finished product came out great.

In Australia we get pushed onto Kindle Australia site and the prices there are mostly annoyingly much higher. This is why for a long time I have just not bothered with kindle books because I resent being overcharged. However today following Christine's recommendations I thought I would check it out.
Plenty is $20.89
Sunny's kitchen. $18.58
The gourmet slow cooker. $12.86
However if you don't own Ruhlman twenty it is $3.79
Bar tartine $2.89 i considered this until I read the review on EYB which compared it to My Paris kitchen and decided not to bother but to buy My Paris kitchen from Book Depository instead.
The drunken botanist was $2.69

Among the Kindle e-book 'holiday deals' (on sale I'm supposing from here until Christmas or New Year's) are:

Flavor Flours $2.51

Roots $3.99

Heirloom Beans $2.99

Pure Dessert $2.99

Roots has been on my wishlist since it came out, and I've been waiting for it to appear at a bargain price in some form.  I went ahead and sprang for Flavor Flours at the same time, since it's also on the wishlist.

That makes nine Kindle cookbooks in the year we've had the device -- all less than $4.  They're increasing my Bookshelf at a pace well ahead of that for physical cookbooks, even with the Friends of the Library book sale's summer blowout from library cookbook stacks thinning.

Anyone that likes kindle cookbooks should definitely check out Amazon's holiday sale now. So many good titles like Ellabee is saying-I have really never seen so many good ones all at once before. Lots more slow cooker titles, Pati's Mexican table, etc.

Was so thrilled to finally get Heirloom Beans.

Thanks Trish and ellabee. I just got Heirloom Beans and Flavor Flavors (which I really wanted). I already have the others. My Kindle cookbook habit is getting a bit out of control, although most of them have been on sale like these. The only problem is that I find I don't use them as often cause they are buried in my iPad.

Here is the full list of Kindle Holiday deals on cookbook (US store). If the same dates apply for cookbooks as they do for the other categories I saw, it seems the sale goes until Nov 30th.
