Is there a way to add an individual indexed recipe from a book?   Go to last post Go to last unread

I have a lot of loose recipes around, many came from Cooks Illustrated/Country in the form of their promotional magazines that are sent as bait to get you to subscribe, others were printed from the website to cook from when I was a member.  I can find these recipes on a search but I  see no option to add them unless I add the whole book. Am I missing something or is this something that could be added as a feature? Its not just CI, I have a few other that were done when books were released that I saved and the sites that published them are no more, I realize I can index them myself but it would be a huge time save if I could add the exisiting indexed recipe.

thank you

Hi Kaliedra,

Unfortunately, you are only able to add an individual recipe from a cookbook or magazine to your Bookshelf if it also has an online link. The idea behind this is that any recipe with an online link is accessible to everyone, so everyone has the ability to add those recipes to their Bookshelf. However, in the case of individual recipes in a book or magazine that are not also available online, they are only accessible to those who own the physical item and we are afraid that allowing anyone to add them individually to their Bookshelf would result in confusion.

For many of the magazines we index, a large number of the recipes have online links to the magazine's website (and thus can be added to your Bookshelf individually), but Cook's Illustrated and Cooks' Country unfortunately do not have online links. This is because the CI site has a paywall for much of their content and in our experience, the content that is available for free is only free for a limited time period. So any links we potentially could add, we know will the unavailable in the future, so we do not link to them. I know this doesn't help your particular situation, but I hope it helps explain why things are set up the way they are.

I would index the particular recipe, add it to Personal recipes, and bookmark it with a label corresponding to the book title. How is that then? B

That definitely is a solution. There is a Source field in Personal Recipes (accessed from the My Bookshelf tab) where you can enter the book title. Or if it's a clipping that would be where you enter what file/folder (or teetering pile) the clipping is in.
