Missing page numbers?   Go to last post Go to last unread

One of my great working books has two weaknesses : it has no workable index, and it is extremely big (about 900 pages).

So this is one of the cases where Bless EYB :) :)

However, for this book, all the page numbers are missing. That means I have to go through the one or several most meaningful 7 sections of my 900 pages books to find the appropriate recipe. What does not help is also that a lot of the recipe have the same name (this is an encyclopedia of Italian cooking and you have several variations of the same recipe), so it means I also have to cross check the ingredients with the site to check whether it is the right recipe.

Slightly unnerving.

Agnes, which book are you referring to?

Sorry Deborah, it is http://www.eatyourbooks....ina-the-regional-cooking

2006 recipes I know, but this is also why this is so frustrating on my end :)

I have just added a note to the last recipe I did to indicate the page number, and am thinking of doing that for the next ones but it will take a long while :)

The recipes are set out alphabetically using the Italian names. That must be some help in finding your recipes.

Ah ah thanks Cati, I had not noticed that :) It does help in most cases indeed!

Agaillard - we didn't initially add page numbers as there can be several editions of a book, all formatted differently, so the page numbers could be wrong for the linked editions. However we decided that since most cookbooks only have one edition we were depriving EYB members with a useful feature just because a few books may create confusion. Ever since then we have added page numbers (and all magazine recipes have had page numbers from the beginning) but there are still a lot of earlier books that have no page numbers. If any member wants to add the page numbers for a book they own, please contact Deborah through our contact link at top right or her direct email and she will set it up for you.

Thanks Jane for the explanation. However given the amount of time it willl take, given the 900 pages of the book... : this is not my job yet :) I think probably indexing my missing recipe books are probably more worthy of my time.

Cati's comment was useful though, it should make things a bit easier and help solve the issue in most cases..
Note that in this case even page numbers which would be a little incorrect, would help!
