This is Dan Leone's first collection of restaurant reviews from his popular San Francisco Bay Guardian column CHEAP EATS. Though it is a legitmate restaurant guidebook, "The Meaning Of Lunch" is specifically targeted at a self-aware, younger reader. Writing about some 150 of his favorite San Francisco food places, Leone introduces an offbeat cast of characters who share their curried chicken and 5-pound omelettes with him. Poking a stick at Gen-X posers, sports, dating, politics and, obviously, food, Leone has disguised a peek into West Coast pop culture as a guidebook.
