The photographs are stunning and seductive. I bought the book because I couldn't take my eyes off the dishes that are so dramatically displayed. The first half of the book is devoted to graphic illustrations of techniques, most of which a seasoned cook would already have mastered. The big disappointment is that the recipes for these beautiful and unusual dishes, in the second half of the book, do not include any descriptions or context. What could they be paired with? Why this particular ingredient and what might be a good variation or substitute? Describe the seasons or flavors or inspiration for the recipe and an occasion when it might be appropriate. I may leave this on a coffee table, but I'm not sure I'll be using it as a cookbook.
