Sausage & Mash Pie: I probably wouldn't have chosen this - my four-year-old spotted it and wanted to try it - but it was very tasty. The crispy sausage bits in the topping were especially nice. I left the skin on the potatoes and omitted the celery. Even though it uses some shortcuts (gravy granules, frozen mushrooms, tinned peas) it still takes a while to come together because you need to cook and mash the potatoes. It would probably be much quicker to use leftover mash from another recipe. This does hit the same flavour buttons as sausage and mash but I slightly missed having all the sausages crispy. But this is definitely a good option for the winter as something the four-year-old will eat and that the rest of the family will enjoy too.

Garlic Chicken Alfredo Lasagna: My mum and I really enjoyed this and it came together much more quickly than a traditional lasagna. I've never used frozen mushrooms before buying this cookbook but they're a great shortcut. I omitted the celery and spinach and served with crispy salad leaves. Unfortunately my four-year-old would only eat the pasta sheets and crispy bits so it won't be a repeat for that reason.

Lasagna Pizzas: Tasty - they really do taste like lasagna in pizza form. My four-year-old loved helping out by grating the cheese and rolling the dough and she was happy to eat these too. I substituted cheddar for Grana Padano and made a double quantity of the mince mix. My yogurt was Greek and therefore thick so I used a bit less than specified and added a splash of milk. The base is lovely provided you roll it thin enough. The recipe is fairly easy but like most homemade pizza recipes it does leave the kitchen a mess. While I really enjoyed these for a change, I do prefer a traditional pizza, so I'll likely steal the base recipe but just use it for a simpler tomato, mozzarella and basil topping. But this is a good one to have in my repertoire as one that my daughter will assist with and eat.
