Lentil-sweet red pepper soup with cumin and black pepper from The Zuni Cafe Cookbook: A Compendium of Recipes and Cooking Lessons from San Francisco's Beloved Restaurant (page 167) by Judy Rodgers

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

We really like lentils. This soup was just okay. Kind of bland. Followed the recipe as written. Won't make again as I have several lentil soup recipes that we really like.

Delicious. Simple. I found myself going for another bowl because it was so good. I used red lentils and pureed most of the batch, making it thick and flavorful. I thought it might be bland without the added bacon fat she suggested, but I was surprised at how good it was. Winner lentil soup recipe!

Pg. 167. First recipe I've ever made from this book and it was not impressive. Would not make again. I don't know if this made any difference, but I did double the recipe and I used half French lentils and half brown lentils. Unfortunately, I have a lot of it leftover.
