Berry shortcake crumble (aka the mother of all sundaes) from The Soda Fountain: Floats, Sundaes, Egg Creams & More -- Stories and Flavors of an American Original by Gia Giasullo and Peter Freeman

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

My family raved about this sundae! It takes a bit of effort to make all the components--shortbread crumble, fruit compote, whipped cream-- but it was worth the effort. I used strawberries & raspberries for the compote since there wasn't enough of either, & used the resulting syrup in the finished dish. Definitely use a really good quality vanilla ice cream.
