    Can substitute 1:1 ratio of molasses and corn syrup for Ole Barrel Syrup.

    My 14 year old granddaughter baked this for Thanksgiving. She is not a novice baker and this is a simple recipe. I even bought the Ole Barrel Syrup for her to use. The recipe at the Washington Post is given the highest rating by several people so I had high hopes. This is my first shoofly pie so maybe I am not a good judge. The texture of our pie seemed to be right. It wasn't too sweet. Maybe I simply am not a shoofly pie lover but we won't be making this again.
