Cowboy beans from Williams-Sonoma by Willie Cooper

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

This knocks the socks off any baked beans recipe I have made so far. Cooked this stove-top and it is delicious. Used the basic barbecue sauce from Steven Raichlen's "How to Grill" flavored with a little mesquite liquid smoke. Turned out a little spicy and very, very flavorful. Doesn't make too much either since it only calls for a 1/2 pound of beans. The only problem I had was that my beans never got soft (even after 2 hours on the stove and 25 minutes in the pressure cooker!) That is no fault of the recipe and probably due to a combination of living at high altitude and using old beans. Served with smoked chicken thighs and legs and a green salad.
