Mixed grain porridge from The Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook (10th Anniversary Edition): 250 No-Fail Recipes for Pilafs, Risottos, Polentas, Chilis, Soups, Porridges, Puddings, and More, from Start to Finish in Your Rice Cooker (page 212) by Beth Hensperger and Julie Kaufmann

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Notes about this recipe

  • Eat Your Books

Can substitute store-bought cracked seven-grain cereal for the book's "Apple granola," and couscous for barley grits.

  • Wlow on October 09, 2025

Great using 10-grain cereal, Scottish oatmeal (Bob’s Red Mill) in place of Irish oats and couscous as alternative to barley grits. No millet meal. Could’ve used a little more water and had some trouble with clumping typical of Cream of Wheat, but adding more liquid helped break it down. Served mine with oat milk, maple syrup, pecan pieces, dried blueberries.
