  • whole chicken
  • white rice

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

This is the recipe I break out when the whole house comes down with illness in the winter. It’s the perfect nourishing comfort food from the bone broth and easy on the stomach. My mom makes it too and adds carrots and bay leaf. I do add a couple carrots to make it more enticing to the kids, but it’s great as-is. Freezes well in souper cubes.

I made this with a stewing chicken that I had tucked away in the freezer. The chicken simmered for about 5 hours and was very tender by the end. The chicken and rice had very good flavor. But at the same time, this just wasn't something that I really enjoyed eating or would eat again. It very much felt like it was missing something.

Added two egg yolks to make it a little richer. 12 minutes on rice.

I don't know how so few ingredients bring so much flavor and comfort. This is an often repeated recipe that checks all the boxes.

Good flavor, comfort food type of meal. Added carrots and peas as well. Used a smaller chicken and 1 cup of rice, so did not use all of the broth. Also make sure that the chicken is completely covered for it to be tender.

Both my daughter and I loved this. Not sure why it took me so long to try this one but I'll definitely be making it again. This is comfort food at its best and perfect for a cold night. I used three leg quarters and 1 1/2 cups of rice. The black pepper is so good in this.

One of my favorite winter recipes! Easy, yummy, and filling. We like to eat it with saltine crackers. Also great to make as a meal for someone who is sick or just had a baby :)
