Smashed rutabaga with apples and ham from Six Seasons: A New Way with Vegetables (page 369) by Joshua McFadden and Martha Holmberg

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

It was good and not very difficult. I did brown the ham cubes while the rest was cooking; other than that I followed the recipe. I’d make it again on a cold day, but it’s not going in my regular rotation.

Made as written with the suggested Fuji apples without issue. This was good! The ham got a little lost and next time I’d consider browning it or perhaps using a bit of sausage instead. Leaving it chunky enough to get a varying rutabaga to apple ratio in each bite added some interest. Ate this by itself as lazy late night meal after a long day but would prefer to serve alongside or on top of some bitter greens. Decent reward for the near zero effort if you enjoy rutabaga
