Fig and hazelnut butter cookies (Biscotti con nocciole e marmellata di fichi) from Lidia's Celebrate Like an Italian: 220 Foolproof Recipes That Make Every Meal a Party (page 359) by Lidia Matticchio Bastianich and Tanya Bastianich Manuali

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

The directions say to partially bake the cookies, carve an indentation in the top of each one, fill the indentations with fig preserves and nuts, and return the cookies to the oven for more baking. This is a lot of trouble, similar to thumbprint cookies but not as good. Lidia also says to bake the cookies just until set but not brown. I found the browner cookies tasted better. These are good but I won’t make them again.
