Tomato and bread salad with anchovies and capers from Ottolenghi Simple (page 33) by Yotam Ottolenghi

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Can substitute chilli flakes for Urfa black chilli flakes.

I quite liked the flavours, but the rest didn't seem to like it that much. I think that the anchovies were to blame... Also, I used pane di casa instead of sourdough, and it didn't work very well. I was expecting the consistency of the Italian panzanella, but the bread was a bit too tough for my liking. If I make it again, I will mix all ingredients earlier.

A delicious xmas eve dish using home-made bread and everything else was home grown (no anchovies as #vegetarian, added a little nori instead. And used nasturtium capers that we made a month or so ago). Delightful, colourful, very (Australian) xmas-y.

This was tasty but made some adjustments. Used focaccia instead of sourdough as I had some I needed to use up. I don’t know if it was bc I used focaccia but the bread didn’t really crisp up in the pan and I kept the burner on low as directed but wonder if I should have keep the oil/garlic/anchovy mixture on med low. Easy enough fix just popped the bread pieces in the toaster oven after tossing in the pan with the garlic oil. I also decreased the oil quite a bit and used the leftover oil from the can of anchovies. I could have added more basil and definitely will next time.

Delicious, a great version of panzanela. I didn’t have enough lemon juice so I added a touch of red wine vinegar.

A different take on the Italian bread and tomato salad. Works well.
