Chick pea soup (La soupe aux pois chiches) from French Provincial Cooking by Elizabeth David

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

After the horrendous heat of a couple of days ago (42C/108F), it is nice to have weather that is almost cold, before Summer hits with force. What a palaver Elizabeth David makes of cooking chickpeas! I sure they are the most tender ever, but luckily I had some pre-cooked chickpeas in the freezer. The soup came together with herbs from the garden and some dehydrated tomatoes from last Summer. I even added the last of the broad beans from the garden. I won't puree all of the soup - I think that would be pastey, but will blitz some of the chickpeas. I know it seems like I went off on a tangent with the soup but I think the intent of ED's soup is there. Delicious!!!!! A new favourite.
