Hot cross buns from Joy of Cooking (Sixth edition 1975) (page 611) by Irma S. Rombauer and Marion Rombauer Becker

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

    Can substitute raisins for currants.

This is a solid recipe - rises well and is easy to follow for excellent results. I swapped out dried cherries for currants and added in cardamom. However, the baking time was off for me. The recipe calls for baking the buns for about 20 minutes. My oven runs cool, but I still set my timer for 15 to check and they were already too dark for my liking. I also prefer a spicer hot cross bun, so next time I’ll go heavier on the spices.
