Tex-leches chocolate-coconut cake from Amá: A Modern Tex-Mex Kitchen (page 259) by Josef Centeno and Betty Hallock

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Notes about this recipe

This was so disappointing. I had heard rave reviews about it on the Cookbook Club podcast, so I wanted to try it despite the warnings of the effort involved. There are 4 different elements to the dessert: the cake, the coffee cream, the icing, and the crumble. It was expensive—so much butter, cream cheese, etc. I served it to visiting family who thought it was just ok, the rest of the 9x13 cake went uneaten. It was that bad. I am not sure if there was an error in my version, but the cream that is to be poured over the cake never got fully absorbed. It only made the cake float. The cream cheese icing tasted mostly of butter and wasn’t really very sweet. I don’t think I have ever made a dessert that was rejected by the family until this one!
