Apple and walnut cake from A Year of Simple Family Food: Delicious Recipes to Feed Your Family Through the Seasons (page 184) by Julia Busuttil Nishimura

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Can substitute vanilla bean paste for vanilla pods, apples for green-skinned apples, and almond meal for almonds.

The baking time/cake pan size (8 inches) didn't work for me. It did seem like a small, thick cake and I should have listened to my instinct. The cake seemed done after 55 minutes and was browned but when I cut it the middle was completely uncooked. I think a larger pan, with a thinner cake, or a bundt would have worked better here. We ate the edges for breakfast and they were tasty but not as good as her other cakes. I might try this one again.
